Mark Jackson
On the loss:
"It was the little things, finishing out ball games. The last line of our defense is securing the basketball, and when it mattered most we weren't able to do it. I'm disappointed. It's a tough loss."
“It’s the little things that either win or lose ball games as we continue to find it out. When it matters most, there should be five guys in the paint area chasing down that loose rebound. At the end of the day, Tony Allen wanted it. That’s what winners do.”
On the last play:
"Once again we were in a position to win the ball game and we didn't because of a defensive rebound. That's the disappointing part about it."
On the beginning of the game:
"It's the process. We shouldn't put ourselves in position to have to fight back. They took control of the game, and we started off very sluggish. Give us credit we didn't quit, we didn't lie down. We fought back and took control of the game, and put ourselves in position to win. It's just a tough way to lose."
David Lee
On the loss:
"Certainly, our record is not as good as we want it to be. We have lost a lot of close games. The positive is we are not far off negative is we have let a lot of games slip away. Everyone on this team wants to win. The matter is we didn't make the play, and the Grizzlies came up with the win."
Nate Robinson
On the loss:
"We have to find a way to get the job done; it's not going to be perfect. We have to find a way regardless of what it is. We shot ourselves in the foot tonight. Gave the Grizzlies 20 points early, came back and led by 10. Losing is old, we are toward the end of the season, we are scrapping together to get wins. We have to get on it now. Hopefully we will turn the page and get going. I think it was a great game. Tony Allen made great shots to lead the Grizzlies, and we didn't stop him."
(after the game)
KCsFinest4 (B.Rush): Plantar fasciitis in my foot. Shii is no joke

SMosley21: @KCsFinest4 damn. You gonna miss time?
KCsFinest4 (B.Rush): @SMosley21 nah I been playing thru it for a few games now
Majestee816: @KCsFinest4 u injured bro? Tough lost too! Man
KCsFinest4 (B.Rush): @Majestee816 nah I'm not hurt

KCsFinest4 (B.Rush): @B_Got_It_5100 @Majestee816 I'm not gonna miss anything
- No interesting notes to add tonight.
- I don't want to look ahead. I want to stare at a wall and sulk. But if you want to look ahead, how about extending this losing streak to 4 with the 19-10 Clippers coming into town?

hard to get motivated to “go to work” after losses like this.

Don't worry Nyan Cat feels your pain
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Nyan Cat looks pretty happy
bigkino217 - February 18, 2012
He's a masochist
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Hahahaha
IQofaWarrior - February 18, 2012
Come get in my poster!
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
Personally
I’ve gotten used to it, so I don’t feel the pain others do. Just another loss in another losing season that’s not bad enough to be in the bottom seven.
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
what are we slotted into right now
like 9 or 10?
bigkino217 - February 18, 2012
Around 9th
Depends on how well Cleveland and Phoenix do
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Also depends on how Milwaukee does
They are a sinking ship, could possible drop into the bottom 7
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Well, the schedule only gets harder for the Warriors
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
I keep telling them
Hand down man down, we are a playoff team though.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
i wish i could vote for like 4 choices
bigkino217 - February 18, 2012
Voted Steph
Mostly because he was on fiyah tonight
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
You can't vote steph tonight!
His TO to, and subsequent foul of, Gay destroyed our positionFTP win…2 for 1 with about 35 seconds left
The TO is forgivable, the frustration foul…bonehead
Duby Dub Dubs - February 18, 2012 via mobile
I called a better play than Malone did, after Steph could not inbound.
I told Lee, get crazy with it drive the rock and get the block called on Memphis, the refs blew the call.
They also messed up not putting a few seconds back on the clock but hey no excuses we are going to get that 8th seed.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
Also your flow coach here
Was smart to keep Udoh on the bench so we could let Allen get that board, I thought we’d end up in OT somehow and didn’t want him getting into foul trouble.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
Your advice is always appreciated here coach
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Stats time again!
Yeah, I decided to go check the NBA stats to see why the Grizz was rebounding so well. It turns out that they are 4th in getting offensive rebounds.
Damn, that’s crazy.
yoshifan - February 18, 2012
I'm not a stats coach
I go with the hot hand, I get into the flow of things. Grizz got lucky and they also had the refs in their pocket.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
Oh, the refs...
gotta hate it when you’re playing on the road. Them officials will blow the whistle against you when they get a chance. (tries to not think about the Lakers @ Nuggets game earlier this month….)
yoshifan - February 18, 2012
I don't make excuses but when I do I blame the refs,
My players or the front office I mean I never saw Lin play don’t blame me.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
Hey, you gotta trust your gut coach.
kenntoe - February 18, 2012
Is that a fat joke ?
I might have to lose a few pounds and put myself in at the end of the game, I don’t trust Monta nor Steph to do things right.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
Yo J-Ridah,
When’s that bold trade supposed to go down? I’m losing hope that this team will finish bottom seven or in the playoffs.
dont_stop_believin' - February 18, 2012
What bold trade?
IQofaWarrior - February 18, 2012
J doesn’t know (or can’t share the specifics), but he said a bold trade would happen if the Warriors were below .500 in Feb or March.
dont_stop_believin' - February 18, 2012
if the warriors make a move
i would guess it would be around the trade deadline
bigkino217 - February 18, 2012
Ah ok
IQofaWarrior - February 18, 2012
Trust me its coming. Belee dat.
J-RIDAH - February 18, 2012
If Dorell Wright is still on this team in a month id be beyond surprised.
J-RIDAH - February 18, 2012
Should’ve traded him before the season started
He peaked under Keith Smart
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Would you do Dorell+2nd round pick+Tyler for Pekovic? How yall feel about that?
J-RIDAH - February 18, 2012
I'd totally be down
Minny won’t do it though
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
might be able to get darko ;)
bigkino217 - February 18, 2012
Im coo on Darko. Pek for DW and a 2nd rounder should get it done. Throw Tyler in if they insist but thats it.
J-RIDAH - February 18, 2012
I'd throw in another lol2nd round pick
But yeah no way Minny do it
Raiiny - February 18, 2012
Are you sure Minny wont do it? Why not?
J-RIDAH - February 18, 2012
Pekovic is throwing up 20/10 left and right next to kevin love, I doubt they wanna go back to Darko as their only center. And they still have beasley and derrick williams at sf.. unless they think Dorell is a good idea at sg. I’d be extremely happy if we actually got a decent center like pek with just dorell+scraps and 2nd round picks though.
Raiiny - February 18, 2012
This
Pek is killing it right now like he’s an all star and he’s a Khan pick (meaning I doubt Kahn will let him go)
dubzfan - February 19, 2012
That's a steal...
no idea why they’d do that…
GovernorStephCurry - February 19, 2012
Go for it
We need to resign Pek but go for it
dubzfan - February 19, 2012
Kinda odd though since we could just try and sign him
Unless they want to lock up a center now then sign a SF like Batum (random FA name worth noting)
dubzfan - February 19, 2012
Ninny laughs you off the phone. Damn u Kahn you intelligent bastard!
kenntoe - February 19, 2012
He will be get used to it
No changes are needed we are a playoff team.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
How about Andris?
I’m still shocked he’s here
dubzfan - February 18, 2012
Where else are we gonna get those two points from? We need beans
No but seriously, he’s so worthless right now
Duby Dub Dubs - February 19, 2012 via mobile
But could we even get for DW?
Doesn’t seem like he’d hold much value
dubzfan - February 18, 2012
We could probably get Lin for him.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
We need to stop making ourselves mediocre.
We need to be bad this year.
GovernorStephCurry - February 19, 2012
or good
just not mediocre
bigkino217 - February 19, 2012
Exactly...this trade takes us from bad to mediocre...
GovernorStephCurry - February 19, 2012
Well the plus side is that we may be locking our center spot up pretty well
Hopefully he’s not just a creation of Rubio’s
Then all we’d need is a legit SF which we could either try and sign or make a big trade for (Curry or Monta for someone and have Klay slide in and start) one
dubzfan - February 19, 2012
I actually liked the concept of the Lee play
They don’t expect Lee to drive. Unfortunately, he got called for the foul, but that’s why you don’t want big men handling the ball. Maybe have him kick it out earlier or something.
Quick note – even if Gasol had not pushed him in the back, he would have barreled into Conley and Conley would have flopped. Not sure if a block or charge would have been called, but you really shouldn’t risk it.
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
Yep. Great surprise call. It could have happened with Curry, Monta, Nate...anyone,
the bad call!
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
We all love surprises around here sorry I ruined the playoff trip
surprise before the season but a promise is a promise buy your tickets now.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
lol
blame the officials for that. Frankly, we have not gotten many calls going our way in close games. I guess it will level out by the end of the season, but it really hurt us tonight on that last play. I think if I were calling this game, I would have called it on the push by the defensive player, and let the foul line decide the winner.
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
I just looked at video of that play three times!
Lee definitely got hammered and pushed into Conley as he was trying to pull up for the kick out pass. The ref blew that call big time!
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
Regardless, Lee should have been shooting that shot, not passing
Forgiveable, but still…ambidextrous bro, take a right hand shot off the backboard there and it would have been unblockable
Duby Dub Dubs - February 18, 2012 via mobile
May have been set up as an option
Shoot or kick out. Only MJ knows for sure. The drive pulled the defense in, and opened up the shooters. Either way, he got hammered as the play developed.
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
bad refs ruin another basketball game...
as the saying goes, if I got a nickel every time this happened I would be a rich…
salary_cap - February 18, 2012
Please
The calls went both ways. Or maybe you should try to ref an NBA game and not make a bad call.
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
the rate of abject failure
is unparalleled. I acknowledge that basketball, specifically the NBA with the most explosive athletes, is the hardest game to call. The failure is so epic, so consistent, it’s as if the three guys looking directly at it are thinking about where they are going to eat later in the night.
salary_cap - February 18, 2012
Yeah, but a bad call with the game on the line,
does not give the ref the opportunity to even it up with another bad cal! :-)
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
So your next game is against the Clippers
Oh, man. Not these guys…. (cowers in a corner)
yoshifan - February 18, 2012
Greg Oden should retire
He is never getting on the court with those knees
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
no need to retire while a team is still willing
to pay you many millions of dollars to stick around!
salary_cap - February 18, 2012
Oden would be an all star
On my team, I know how to get the most out of big men see.
Look at the season Biedrins is having if you don’t believe me.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012

I think the Blazers uniforms make their players look bigger
It’s hard to tell how big someone is when they are wearing all black. It just blends with the background.
On the flip side, the Orlando unis make Dwight looks thinner because of the stripes.

THAT was an offensive foul???
haha, or a message from the refs that we didn’t deserve to win that game based on our 4th quarter collapse? No one rebounding on an obvious shot with 5 sec left? WTF?
Skeptic con Urquell - February 18, 2012
I kept Uhod out for the simple fact
I expected the game to go to OT and didn’t want foul trouble, I’d already lost Biedrins for the game. It’s not my fault Rush and Wright just stood there and watched.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
I expected the game to go to OT
you thought he was gonna make a 1 point basket?
Skeptic con Urquell - February 18, 2012

dinohealth - February 18, 2012
on that key offensive rebound by Allen
D.Wright was subbed in defensively for Udoh after the clutch free throws put Fools’gold State up by one. Wright was staring at the shot attempt and not attending to his area of the paint, which is where Allen came for the rebound and tip in. Wright was the only one in position to box Allen out, but froze when the shot went up. A curious move, isn’t it, to put Wright in for Udoh ?
the.monk - February 18, 2012
No excuses
We were keeping Udoh out of foul trouble.
NoExcusesJackson - February 18, 2012
I'm gonna key in on the warriors on DReb's.
Wright’s failure to block out looks horrible considering it was the game deciding bucket. I wonder if it’s a team wide deficiency or if our guys don’t come back to board. What I had thought is that we’re just too undersized every night and that our guys just aren’t naturally good rebounders. Lee can’t board all by himself, so the rest of the team has got to secure the ball first before tey can leak out.
kenntoe - February 19, 2012
another bad part about that play by Wright
was that he wasn’t even really in a position to help. He just took a single step up.
this is such a fundamental error!
Even in high school, I was getting railed on by coach to “stay outta no-man’s land”
if you are going to help, you MUST commit all the way, just kinda waffling in between doesn’t do anything except leave your man open
Duby Dub Dubs - February 20, 2012
We had 11 Offensive Rebounds to their 12. Lee got 7 of ours by his lonesome.
We did not get killed on the offensive glass as I initially thought.
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
No, but you have to look at the percentages
Warriors shot .427, while the Grizzlies shot .507. That means that there were a lot more offensive rebound opportunities for the Warriors than the Grizzlies, and yet the Grizz had more offensive rebounds.
Just a tip :)
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
How many shots did they take vs us?
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
You have to look at missed shots.
We missed 47 shots and had 11 offensive rebounds.
They missed 36 shots and had 12 offensive rebounds
11/47=23.4% This means we offensive rebounded 23.4% of our own misses
12/36 = 33.3%. This means they offensive rebounded 33.3% of their own misses.
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
I asked you how many shots they took vs. ours precisely for that reason, as you quoted the percentages only in your first response..
I had not looked at the shot opportunities (or the percentages). You realize that if we had shot less than they did, the missed shots( and, rebound opportunity) would be different for the same percentages. Thanks for the tip.
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
What jumped at me in my intial look at the offensive rebounds we got vs theirs,
was that we did not killed as we had 11 offensive rebounds to get a second chance to score, vs. their 12 offensive rebound possessions to score. In that sense, we did not get killed. Now, if we talk about offensive rebound opportunity, clearly, with the number of shots taken, they had a higher offensive rebound efficiency than we had.

doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
lol
Well, he does occupy that space for a couple of minutes each game at least, so, technically, there is a center there. :-)
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
I am disappointed Klay has not done well
in the past 2 games in terms of having a big shooting night. Wonder what is up with him. Could have used some 3s tonight from him in a big way.
On a positive note, I did like how the Warriors climbed back in the game. It was a nice feeling to see the other coach upset that his team had blown the huge lead and let the other team back in it, then the usual shoe on the other foot. I do have to say I enjoyed that, although the out come of the game severely mitigated my happiness at that role reversal.
picknpop - February 18, 2012
Three point shooters can be very streaky.
If he is going to be a good one, he will find his stride again. Hard to tell, because he is a rookie. They can shoot crappy one night, and go on a tear the next; or, even from one half to the next. That is why guys like Rush and Reggie (last year), are so impressive. To come in cold, sometimes being used very erratically, and deliver at the clip that these guys do, is really awesome.
dinohealth - February 18, 2012
hmmm, good point!
picknpop - February 18, 2012
Also, Klay probably needs time to adjust to the NBA grind
IQofaWarrior - February 18, 2012
One the attempted game winner a few games back and tonight with about 2 min left ...
… we saw a clumsy Monta-to-Lee connection. They run a P&R, or simply slide past each other on motion, but Monta is delivering the ball late and a little bit behind Lee, and the result kills the play’s momentum.
Not a huge deal, but one of those little things that adds up over the course of the season. They need to run about a 1000 PnR drills to get the timing of that pass down right.
Ronaldinho - February 18, 2012
Do you think the passes may be late because Monta’s looking to shoot first? And passes when there’s no shot?
123707THIZZ - February 19, 2012
On another note, I still feel terrible for Jeremy Tyler
I can’t imagine his disappointment that he feels right now, and every loss must reinforce his feeling of making a huge mistake in his life with not going to school. I think he would be in such a different position now rather than a barely there rookie who hardly gets to play and when he does, makes a lot of errors.
It can be hard to live with that regret, although I know I am speculating since I don’t know him. It just seems to go along with the Warriors almost there/if only if/short term over long term framework of operating.
I hope that he can improve and play more.

If you look at the David Lee drive at the end of the game
I don’t think it was a play called for David Lee. I think that he saw the overplay and tried to create by himself. Curry and Rush were in the same spot on the floor, meaning that floor spacing was not important on the play, meaning that they did not expect Lee to drive and pass to the perimeter. Lee was pushed (or body blocked) into Conley by Gasol, but he was also out of control and would have crashed into Conley anyways, forcing the refs to make a call. I think the original play was a Monta iso or something similar, with David Lee handing off the ball to Monta.
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
After re-watching that play, the call bothers me more because Lee wasn’t even driving into Conley. All the contact was drawn by Gasol and Conley squeezing the path he was trying to take. Really should have been a defensive foul or a no call.
All in all, it really doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.
dont_stop_believin' - February 19, 2012

And Brothers actually gave us a couple calls
doubleteapot - February 18, 2012
if
the Warriors were at all improved they would have 7 in a row right now. Losing Kwame really f*cked up their season…
okeephoss - February 19, 2012
Sad thing is that Kwame is not even good
That means Warriors really suck. When backcourts play this well and still lost, it means this is not a wining team.
ILoveWarriorsGirls - February 19, 2012
SO....
I GUESS I understand some horrible calls and stuff (even if refs get paid to do their job…..) but how on earth was there not more time put on the clock? Furthermore, how did coach Jackson NOT lose his sh*t and get ejected when they decided not to put more time on?
Murderer's Rowand - February 19, 2012
OMG!!
Some troll is posting porn on Clips Nation… Its really annoying!!
ClipperBEAST - February 19, 2012
His name is smooth93 so if you guys see him on GSoM
Be prepared to ban him..
ClipperBEAST - February 19, 2012
Thanks for the heads up
IQofaWarrior - February 19, 2012
From MTII, just….wow…win even 1/4 of those and we’re .500 and in playoff hunt.
Badly Browned - February 19, 2012
Oops
Meant 1/3
Badly Browned - February 19, 2012
Gasol mostly uses his body to block off Lee's angle and forces him into Conley
Lee is trying to avoid the charge, as you can see
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
He gets hammered on his left back shoulder, and
gets pushed into Conley…Definitely a foul on Memphis. I do not know where the ref was standing, but with the game on the line, it was a very bad call.
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
wow
ok, now I’m convinced
that’s like…a double-blocking foul
neither one of those guys has their feet set!
Duby Dub Dubs - February 20, 2012
Norwitzki VS Lin in NY is meeting all expectations going into the 4th!
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
Good god, Lin can hit that 3 when it counts
IQofaWarrior - February 19, 2012
this one is more impressive than other games IMO
dallas has some good defenders
bigkino217 - February 19, 2012
apparently lin loves playing on national tv lol
bigkino217 - February 19, 2012
I think he loves pressure
he gets more focused at crunch time. And yeah, I guess Jeremy Lin is for real, at least his mindset is definitely for real, after passing the Lakers and Mavericks test. He needs backup help or he’s going to wear down from playing all these minutes.
IQofaWarrior - February 19, 2012
baron is due back tomorrow
may not be good anymore, but should be able to provide lin at least around 15 mins of rest
bigkino217 - February 19, 2012
I assume his point guard mind is still good
Age has probably taken away some of his explosiveness, and maybe a little of his strength. But if he can stick to his point guard duties of poking at the defense and move the ball to the open player or the weak side of the defense, he should be able to help give Jeremy Lin some rest and not hurt the Knicks chances at winning the game.
IQofaWarrior - February 19, 2012
Yep
The key for the Knicks will be keeping Baron Davis involved in the game because he likes to mentally check out of games
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
Like Stephen Jackson, Jeremy Lin makes love to pressure.
kenntoe - February 19, 2012
He is really a clutch player and turns it on in the 4th.
As IQ points out in the dicsussion, above, his shot is for real, and, apparently, Lin is for real. This is now Lin’s team. Davis will help, as will Melo, and JR, but the Knicks will go as far as Lin can carry them.
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
Unlike the Warriors, Jeremy Lin doesn't have one night stands with pressure
Lawrence9ers - February 19, 2012
Lin is an NBA player definitley
5.4 TOs per36 though, ouch. 8.7 assists per 36 though.
Watching the Knicks makes me want Tyson Chandler more than anything though.
Badly Browned - February 19, 2012
heres the thing though
lin on court
NY 15 TO per 48
lin off court
NY 16 TO per 48
bigkino217 - February 19, 2012
Move over Dirk and Dallas, here come the
Warrior-Trained Linesque Knicks!
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
Hmm, a .500 East ball club has now beaten both Dallas and the Lakers!
What does that say about he West? Everyone keeps saying how the West has better teams than the East. Hmmm…
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
if you think about ny with lin
then an 8-1 team beat the lakers and dallas. let’s not fool ourselves, the east is still really bad.
bigkino217 - February 19, 2012
the talent is shifting back east
off the top of my head the last two years:
Stoudemire
Chandler
Melo
West
Boozer
Deron
have all went West to East while aside from Griffin and Durant, the east got Rose, Wall, Irving and all the other top picks have went to the east except for those two injury prone bigs
starbury_to_s-jaxci2000 - February 19, 2012
It's weird how everyone thought the Mavs getting Lamar was a steal
turns out the Lakers sold high… Lamar is terrible now
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
He's not very happy or motivated
His mental state plays a huge part in the way he plays. He probably would have stayed a similar player if he hadn’t been traded.
Brownie13 - February 19, 2012
I wonder if we can get Odom
he would be the best player on our team…maybe we could get him for cheap too
Duby Dub Dubs - February 20, 2012
Those national announcers sure like Lin a lot
I bet it pisses of fans of the other team though
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
Would anyone have imagined a year ago when he was here,
that Jeremy Lin, our practically walk-on rookie, would be having the titanic impact he is having on the NBA and international b-ball today? The story is really huge. National and international media can’t get enough of it. National announcers would be fools not jump on it. The underdog has always held a special pIace in the heart of Americans. I think fans are mature on other teams, understand it, and love it. Our fans are pulling for him too, but, there is a sour taste because of what might have been if we had kept him.
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
In Toronto, when the Knicks were playing,
the Toronto fans were cheering him on! They have not been to too many cities since he went on this tear, but the phenomenon is repeated everywhere he goes!
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
The last Ivy League player for the Knicks, was Bill Bradley.
Lin has taken NY by a storm. Braldley was coming off the bench most of his career, and was a high IQ player. He went on to become a US Senator and had a minor Presidential campaign. If Lin has a normal bball career, NY, or, even Mass, has a way of identifying with its sports heroes. Given Lin’s personal attributes of intelligence, humbleness, and down-to-earth Christian approachability, his future is very bright in the public domain.
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
Yale grad Chris Dudley played for the Knicks in the late 90's
Ray of Lite - February 19, 2012
You are right, I forgot about his stint with the Knicks.
He was well-traveled if I remember correctly. Five or six years, here, I think. Interestingly, both, he and Bradley, went into politics afterwards. (Bradley in NJ, and, Dudley out in Oregon).
dinohealth - February 19, 2012
Cavs won
That makes us 8th worse in the league now, yes? 1 more to go! lol
Potential - February 19, 2012
You know what would suck?
As if we didn’t already suck. But what would suck is if we tanked enough to get the #7, #6, or #5 lotto spot, and then 1, 2, or 3 teams below us won the ping pong balls, kicking us to the #8 drafting spot, which would mean the Jazz would get it. That would mean that all that tanking would have gotten us NOTIHNG. And it would mean that the basketball gods see us Warriors fans as the butt of cruel jokes.
IQofaWarrior - February 19, 2012
No excuses for us not to be a playoff team and win the lottery.
NoExcusesJackson - February 19, 2012
I've been looking at the ping pong balls. Here's what I've come up with:
These six teams are going to be the bottom six teams in the NBA: Charlotte, Washington, Toronto, New Orleans, New Jersey, Sacramento
So, if the Warriors will be fighting these teams for the 7th seed: Detroit, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Phoenix.
Are the Warriors less talented than these teams? I don’t think so. They are more talented than Detroit and Cleveland for sure. Phoenix is a wild card depending on if they trade Nash. Milwaukee was sort of good, but without Bogut they are sinking fast.
This means that the Warriors are not going to be a bottom seven team: probably 9 or 10 in the end. Even if they go on a massive losing streak, at least one of these teams is guaranteed to go on a massive losing streak as well. The Warriors will not get a bottom seven pick. We’ll just have to hope the ping pong balls fall in the Warriors’ favor.
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
Finishing #7 would be kinda risky: there’d be a 25% chance of getting leapfrogged and falling to #8.
Finishing #6 would be far less so: 4.1%.
At #5 the odds drop to 0.4%. Four shots in 1,000. Even as a semi-superstitious dude and a Warriors fan, I wouldn’t worry about that scenario coming to pass.
Sleepy Freud - February 20, 2012
at least one of these teams is guaranteed to go on a massive losing streak as well.
there are no guarantees in tanking.we do our best at losing and let the chips fall where they may.
Skeptic con Urquell - February 19, 2012
Nah, the Warriors won't trade their players before the trade deadline in March
Players don’t tank. We’re too good a team to be in the bottom seven. So any tank talk is silly.
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
We’re too good a team to be in the bottom seven.
if we were really good we could figure out how to be in the bottom one.
Skeptic con Urquell - February 19, 2012
The key to tanking is not asking the players to tank
All players are naturally competitive. You want the front office to gut the roster so it isn’t good enough to win most NBA games. But this front office will not do that.
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
Really happy with the Lacob regime
Absolutely no adjustment period needed for fans. Just business as usual from the Cohan era.
Ignoring glaring obvious flaws in a roster, not having the ball to shake it up, regardless of the result. Holding out mediocre assets as if they’ll all appreciate into facebook ipo.
tafkasam - February 19, 2012
And that goes for Steph too
His general attitude the last year and a half has annoyed me. Not a guy I believe can be a leader, at the moment.
tafkasam - February 19, 2012
The big question is, do you really want the Warriors to tank
considering their recent draft history? Or is this draft so talented that you’d have to be an idiot to not be able to draft a good player?
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
is this draft so talented that you’d have to be an idiot to not be able to draft a good player?
I’ve heard that it is an 8 player draft so we’ll probably hand someone good to utah.
I’m hoping the Kings come out of it with a keeper, they need a couple more young pieces of their puzzle.
Skeptic con Urquell - February 19, 2012
Positive from the game:
Looks like Curry may be finally becoming a better PG. He’s been getting more assists now.
doubleteapot - February 19, 2012
The non foul at the end of the game...
Well, I have to finally say that I view the NBA as a very entertaining item. I do not view the NBA as true basketball, and certainly not as a fair contest where the talent of the teams decides the outcome. It’s a fixed gig.
There has already been one offical write a book about how the NBA is rigged.
In “Freakonomics” they pointed out how you can tell mathematically if a sport is rigged. They chose to focus on Sumo wrestling, and found out it was very rigged.
No, the NBA is rigged, from the so called “lottery” on down to which teams make the finals.
So, I enjoy watching the Warriors, but the NBA will decide if they are exciting enough and will draw enough viewers to give the signal to the officiating crew to “let this team pass” and get into the NBA finals.
Like they always say,the officials don’t give the calls to weak players. Because a foul isn’t really a foul, I guess. That’s rigged, man. That’s a fix.
