Mark Jackson
On Tonight's Game:
"I told the guys you think that the game was won or lost by Monta Ellis' runner, but that's not real basketball. We didn't execute two, two-on-one fast breaks. We didn't close out possessions defensively and we didn't gang rebound and we allowed them second shot opportunities. We made mistakes and turned the ball over. Give us one of those plays back and we win the ballgame. Those are winning plays and so many players seem to ignore those plays because the one that is shown is the runner in the lane. We lost the game before that."
On how they build after tonight's game:
"It's a process...it's a process. You have to keep on working, keep on preaching. You have to find guys that believe in the message and are willing to do whatever. No need to hold our heads down, we're going to be fine. We've got to make it happen, nobody is going to hand deliver us a win."
On Monta Ellis maybe going too late on final shot attempt:
"That's his read, my only concern in that situation is that they had a foul to give, but once he realized they were playing straight defense I can't be upset with that. He got a great look. The guy is doing everything I ask him to do on both sides of the basketball and he has the ball in his hands and gets a quality look. It's just a tough bounce."
Nate Robinson
On what coach wanted on the last play:
"We got the ball to our go to guy, Monta (Ellis), we will live with a shot like that, he's made that plenty of times in his career as I've been watching. The ball just didn't go in. Coach wanted to call a play for the iso at top; he got what exactly what we needed but it just didn't go in."
On what keeps them believing that things will turn around:
"We come in and we do what we love to do and that's play basketball. As a team and as a unit we know we can do it. We just have to figure out a formula that works, period. Coach does a great job drawing stuff up, we have to do a better as a team on executing exactly what he wants. We have to continue to keep playing hard."
David Lee
On defense playing well but offensively struggling:
"Part of that comes from having a guy like Stephen Curry who's not in right now who provides some more scoring from the perimeter for us, makes us deeper as a team. It's frustrating just because we're sitting here 2-6 we can easily be 4-4 or 5-3. I'm going to be really frustrated until that next win. During this losing streak nothing seems positive at this point."
Dorell Wright
On how disappointing it is losing a close game like this:
"It's very disappointing. Rewind the tape; it's not the first time, the past two games. We just have to find a way to get better."
On turnovers:
"We have to take care of the basketball at any point of the game. We have to get better all around; it's just not one thing."
(before the game)
Rusty_SFChron: Warriors PG Stephen Curry will be evaluated tonight by team docs, fly to Charlotte to meet with his surgeon Monday.
Rusty_SFChron: Can't see Curry flying in to play Heat on Tuesday, and ORL on Thursday looks unlikely. He might as well stat in CHA, where GSW play Jan. 14.
Rusty_SFChron: Sounds like original surgery held up, but know more Mon. RT “@chrisburgess87: @Rusty_SFChron Is a second try at the surgery a possibility?
- Biedrins DNP on the ankle. He tried before the game, but couldn't go.
- From the Carl Steward recap, Mark Jackson said he really had to convince the ref to get the technical foul called on him.
- A day off tomorrow, a practice day on Monday, and the Miami Heat on Tuesday. Yeah, we're definitely breaking this losing streak then.

Whoo let's blow a bunch of dunks and fastbreaks!
doubleteapot - January 7, 2012
it's okay. we are on the right track to tank
so we get the keep our draft pick, plus Howard.
ILoveWarriorsGirls - January 8, 2012
Missed the game but just watched the last play. Not a fan of waiting till the last second to shoot when you’re trailing
AJC3317 - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
exactly
if you go early and score, the other team isn’t going to want to wait for the last shot either, so you might even get the ball back with time if they score back.
if you go early and miss, you have a chance for a tip in. even if you don’t get the rebound, you just foul and you’ll have time to tie after the other team shoots fts.
bigkino217 - January 7, 2012
Once again Monta vs the world
I’d seriously rather have almost any other PF or SF right now then Lee and Wrong, if they don’t go in some sort of blockbuster trade just dump them. I am willing to dump anything on this team.
If we don’t get DH12 see if we can trade Monta/Curry for a top 5 pick
dubzfan - January 7, 2012
Lee had a solid game tonight, but yeah I’d still get rid of him.
DubsFan408 - January 7, 2012
His defense was as bad as it has ever been
And the guy only can score on centers
dubzfan - January 7, 2012
Dude, give Lee a break!
Gasol last night, milsap and favors tonight…that’s tough
Duby Dub Dubs - January 7, 2012 via mobile
We paid him to play like an all star
I don’t care who he’s across from, play how your payed
dubzfan - January 7, 2012
His defense on Paul Milsap was terrible. He got abused in the post.
kenntoe - January 8, 2012
4/12, 6/15, 4/9.
That’s Millsap, Jefferson, Favors.
…Someone played good defense, because the Jazz big men shot around 40% from the field.
Lee also had 15 rebounds and scored more efficiently than those guys.
don't leave Morrow! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Kwame and Udoh
were great on D
Lee was horrible and didn’t box out at all. seriously seems like you just looked at the box score and didn’t watch.
Brownie13 - January 7, 2012
Well I played a couple games of Halo at halftime.
I missed the first few minutes of the 3rd quarter…
don't leave Morrow! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
But come on.
It seemed like he had a good game from what I could see. His jumper was on and he inhaled rebounds. Maybe could have gotten to the line more than once, but still.
In my opinion, he was solid and helped the team.
don't leave Morrow! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
and
so are you guessing, or what?
Brownie13 - January 8, 2012
Chill out.
What I meant to say was I watched the game and Lee played well in my opinion.
I also meant to say interior defense was not a major issue.
don't leave Morrow! - January 8, 2012 via mobile
except it totally was when it was lee
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
exactly.
just because everyone else played good D inside, does not mean Lee did
Brownie13 - January 8, 2012
Huh? I thought it is the Hayward guy has the team high. Told you DWright’s D is bad.
ILoveWarriorsGirls - January 8, 2012
dorell wasnt even in when hayward was going off
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
They took DWrong out
Hayward was just coming off a lot of screens and making shots. We don’t have good individual perimeter defenders at all so we can’t chase him around screens.
doubleteapot - January 8, 2012
In other news this draft just got worse and slightly less painful for us, Drummond says he's staying at Uconn
http://www.zagsblog.com/2012/01/07/drummond-says-he-plans-to-return-for-sophomore-season/
dubzfan - January 7, 2012
always a chance he changes his mind

Not a huge fan of Drummond; as long as Anthony Davis stays in the draft then I’m fine.

mykelala01 - January 7, 2012
Rarely get a call at the end of the game like that.
And Raja is a good enough defender to not give up an easy lay in
Badly Browned - January 7, 2012
Or at least
To force Monta into a bad shot, which he did
Badly Browned - January 7, 2012
not to mention force Monta the bad pass to let Hayward to shoot 2 shots
ILoveWarriorsGirls - January 8, 2012
or
atleast run a screen not like this when everybody is set and know whats going to happen.
stepN30 - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Exactly effin this!!
That last play was lame…you’ve got to at least try a little something, even if you aren’t going to pass, at least set somescreens to free up your shooter
Duby Dub Dubs - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Well....
Tonight’s loss was disappointing…
Goes to show this schedule is gonna be pretty tough…
Up next we have heat/magic….
Doubtful wins against those monsters…
Puts us at 2-8
Lookin like top 7 draft might not be out of our reach…. Especially if there is a trade for Dwight that may cripple us while obtaining that superstar….
Gotta go for it tho…
RTM707 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
They didn't have quite enough time to set a screen.
The defense would double and rotate, meaning the offense would have to make multiple extra passes before they could get an open look.
don't leave Morrow! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
ellis
is quick enough to break the defense which you can clearly see that watching the game.
stepN30 - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Not if he got doubled...
Which is what would happen if you set him a pick.
We don’t have Curry, so this iso play was probably our best available option. It would have been better for Monta to shoot a couple seconds earlier so we would have a chance at an offensive board though.
don't leave Morrow! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
this iso play was probably our best available option
I’d rather seen a drive with option to dish to kawame and make their D work harder.
Woulda also been more entertaining.
Skeptic con Urquell - January 7, 2012
drive and dish to kwame at the 3pt line? yes please
they’d never expect it!
bigkino217 - January 7, 2012
Well Monta didn't even draw the center to him
Bell shut him down without help. So he couldn’t dish to Kwame. Although he probably would have just shot anyway…
don't leave Morrow! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
But if you set a screen with Lee ...
… Lee’s got that midrange jumpshot if you double Monta.
And if you don’t, you’re helping Monta get half a step on Bell which should be all he needs even with a defender who matches up well against him.
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
The D would rotate to take away the Lee midrange.
And keep rotating as extra passes were made until maybe a corner 3. Who was in the corner at the time? I’m not sure, probably Wright. That might be a decent look if the dubs executed crisply enough.
don't leave Morrow! - January 8, 2012 via mobile
wright wasn't in
i think it was klay
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
may have been nate
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
Well, first of all, yes, you make the defense rotate.
If they successfully rotate, you keep passing and that’s fine because we have good passers at multiple positions. But lots of times teams don’t rotate effectively.
And if you end up with a Wright or Klay three, you know what? That’s fine. Why? Because a Wright open three, while not a sure thing, is a better shot than Monta falling backwards as he tries to shoot over a taller player.
Seriously, look at the picture at the top of this page. That’s a horrible shot. God-awful.
Ronaldinho - January 9, 2012
Because a Wright open three, while not a sure thing, is a better shot than Monta falling backwards as he tries to shoot over a taller player
Still, when I’m only one point behind I’d rather take the last shot as close to the rim as possible plus have a better chance of drawing a foul.Magette to the hole would be my first choice but since we don’t have anyone like that some kind of ball movement or P&R or drive and pass would be probably be statistically preferable to a 3 point shot?
Skeptic con Urquell - January 9, 2012
well in this case, the corner 3 was based off the assumption that the defense properly rotated off of a pick and roll after doubling monta. sure if they dont rotate, or you get monta on a slower defender, you go with that.
bigkino217 - January 9, 2012
There were over nine seconds left!
There is absolutely, positively time to run more of a play than that b.s.
Instead we saw the same old, same old. Monta trying to make it happen when every defender is in perfect position.
You can run a pick and roll there. Or at least feed Lee in the high post, and give it to Monta when he’s moving so that the defense at least has to think a little about what might happen. You can run a screen at him with 7 seconds left, right when he gets the ball, to help him get some separation from Bell.
It’s the same s**t we’ve seen at the end of games for a couple of years now, and it just doesn’t work. Monta’s not good enough to iso when the whole defense is staring at him. The team’s got to help him out!
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
No one on this team can run a proper pick and roll v. a set defense. Curry does it best in transition, but that’s irrelevant as he wasn’t even playing.
Lee certainly CANT finish unless there’s a clear rim. I’m so down on him as a PF in general, and as a big in any system but uptempo one with a stretch 4 or 3 wing line up. Both of which lead to major rebounding issues unless Monta and Dorell magically turn into Lebron and Wade crashing the glass.
Not a bad idea but it kind of points to same flaw we had with Monta…. off ball movement.
Totally.
Monta’s decision-making is suspect, when he’s overused. You know what’s coming, since he’s not some sort of alien/human hybrid who can get where he wants regardless of what your D’s doing it does matter.
However, the way players move off the ball is disgusting.
I would have preferred to honestly have Lee, Macguire, Dorell, Rush on the floor, spread them out and atleast try to create room for Monta to drive and have them CRASH the offensive glass. Instead it was what, a clogged lane, partially our fault.
tafkasam - January 8, 2012
Well, at least we agree about that. :)
I really do think stagnant offense is a common side effect of an overshooting ball-dominant player. But yeah, whatever the team does, having Monta dribble with everyone staring at him for 4-5 seconds is just stupid.
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
yea..
it was basically Ellis against 5. FAIL!!!
stepN30 - January 8, 2012 via Android app
I don't disagree
However, I should point out, I agree with the point- Monta’s not a “PG”. He can be an effective playmaker, a decisive passer but he does not know how to turn it off of 6th gear, slow down and involve all.
tafkasam - January 9, 2012
I want a rematch

Its depressing.
Like, I had such great hope after the lockout ended. I saw Chandler and CP3 become possibilities only to have it fall apart. Then we wasted the amnesty on Bell. Made some positive moves with Rush and Kwame. It looked good until we lost Monta to his grandmother’s funeral. Everything since then, minus the Nate signing, has sucked.

You're welcome
And the answer is because I’m naturally competitive and I like to do a good job and complete my tasks and show it off. And I despise failing at my tasks.
And yeah, it’s not easy to do this after an uninspiring and disappointing loss. That’s when I draw my energy from cynicism and sarcasm, which is actually kind of fun. I’m already thinking of snarky titles for when this losing streak continues.
IQofaWarrior - January 8, 2012
Lets trade
David Lee to the Bobcats for Boris Diaw and some other idiot.. Then trade Biedrins to the Raptors for Leandro Barbosa.
Keep our top 7 projected pick, draft Harrison Barnes. Sign Dwight Howard. Also sign Roy Hibbert. OK cya in the NBA finals.
Potential - January 8, 2012
trade monta too... he'd be the last big contract on the team.
Nith - January 8, 2012
He'd be key in getting DH12
The FO will go hard after him and will need Monta for that
dubzfan - January 8, 2012
God those trades sound awesome
I’d still go after DH12 though through a trade since I doubt we could convince to come here if he hasn’t already been here. But If we had a top pick, Curry and Monta with DH12 …. I like that
dubzfan - January 8, 2012
The absolute very best possible scenario
We do the above trades and clear tons of cap space and win the lottery and draft Anthony Davis. We continue to purse Dwight Howard and with the help of having the number 1 pick in the draft and having both Curry and Ellis management convinces Dwight to come here after DWill is fed up with the Nets sucking and leaves them for Dallas. We still have 5 mil left and use it to sign Nic Batum
PG – Curry, Jenkins
SG – Ellis, Klay
SF – Batum, Wright
PF – Davis, Udoh
C – Dwight , Tyler
dubzfan - January 8, 2012
ok ok ok cya in the nba finals where the bitchus at
Potential - January 8, 2012
I had a weird dream
(why I am dreaming about Warriors free-agency/trade pursuits and cap space is BEYOND me)
We pulled the Curry, Lee, Biedrins (to a 3rd party), Udoh for Dwight, Hedo trade.
We end up with only Dwight, Monta, Dorell, Klay, Hedo on the roster next year (approximately 47 mil committeD?). We convinced KG and Chauncey to take pay cuts and come to GSW.
Chauncey, Monta, Dorell, KG, Dwight.
Naturally, Kwame resigned for pennies, Klay transformed into an awesome player of the bench, and we had some faceless (love dreams) back up PG

And then I woke up and remembered we lost to the f’n Jazz!
Sigh.
Though, I do think one point in the dream were relevant-
Next summer, Chauncey, Andre Miller, Kidd are free agents. Big PG’s, vets who would easily work next to Monta if we traded Curry for a big time player.
tafkasam - January 8, 2012

Skeptic con Urquell - January 8, 2012
damn i forgot about them
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
Lee had three shots in the first half and hit all of them.
Yes, there were plenty of mistakes to go all around, but this is really basketball 101.
When your big men are scoring, get them the damn ball. Meanwhile, in the first half, Monta had, what, 9 misses? Ten? In what world does it make sense for Lee to get fewer than a third as many shots as Monta misses when Lee is hitting everything?
I’m boggled that more people don’t see this as a problem. I don’t see how we can complain about our lack of talent when we’re so clearly under-utlizing the talent that we do have.
Makes me want to go become a Clipper fan.
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
u miss the game?
monta missed 5 shots in the first half. was 6-9 until the missed dunk and end-of-half 3
Brownie13 - January 8, 2012
Maybe I'm remembering when the missess happened wrong.
It’s still absurd. Lee was 3-for-3. You get him the damn ball.
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
In any event, let me ask you the real question:
Do you think there’s a problem with the allocation of shots between Monta and Lee or not?
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
He got the ball real early.
Easy pick and roll with Monta. Easy jumper off Monta kick out.
He took himself out of the offense after that. It had nothing to do with Monta.
One of the biggest problems was transition turnovers in which he never got a chance to get involved, but I remember him doing a lot of passing at the top of the key in the first half. That was aggravating enough, but his soft play (other than those surprising dunks) in the second half was even worse.
Brownie13 - January 8, 2012
+1
Lee was aggressive early in attack Utah but then fell back into his lazy offense that he’s been getting into way too often
dubzfan - January 8, 2012
+1
Monta went cold from the field in the 2nd half
dubzfan - January 8, 2012
One thing I remember -
- not that Monta is anywhere close to as good as Jordan was – but when the Bulls were at their peak, Jordan didn’t try to dominate the game from minute one. In fact, the first half he really focused on creating for his teammates.
Then the 4th quarter would roll around and he would have fresher legs and everybody would be motivated and working hard.
Ronaldinho - January 8, 2012
Go be a clippers fan than.
So many fair weather fans on this site. Love Monta, hate Monta, love Curry, hate Curry. I miss the days when people supported their team, good or bad. I’m guess I’m old fashion like that, I’m not one for bitching.

If I was going to switch teams, that would have been the only one that made sense. I honestly thought seriously about it 4-5 years ago, but it didn’t stick. (Probably without GSOM I would have jumped).

Well that reasoning is clearly different
and not so much a product of the Warriors losing but of your own personal circumstances. Switching teams for a reason like that shouldn’t have any fans upset. And it’s not that I’m mad at you individually, I just hate those kinds of sentiments, even in the heat of the moment. I don’t question your loyalty to the Warriors as much as I do your reasoning at that time. I don’t even believe you’d actually quit on the Warriors because we suck, but it’s still a statement that’s going to rub me the wrong way.
Brownie13 - January 10, 2012
yes let's just all blindly root for our mediocre team and not care about getting any better...
give me a break dude
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
Never said that.
Of course I would like them to get better, but I don’t work in the Front Office to make those decisions. What I do is support my team through ups and downs. There’s been plenty of downs for sure, but I’ve never wanted to switch my loyalty to another team. That’s why I questioned that’s guy’s loyalty.
Coldlampin - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Haha. Except when it comes to bitching at other fans for not being homers, evidently.
You also might want to familiarize yourself with the meaning of “fair weather fan.” I don’t see how that possibly applies to anyone who posts regularly on this site.
Sleepy Freud - January 8, 2012
seriously
if anyone was a fair weather fan, they wouldn’t be here
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
I can understand being unhappy.
But suggesting you’re going to go become a fan of another team just sets you up for that kind of comment.
Brownie13 - January 8, 2012
I'm curious why you would make this comment?
GovernorStephCurry - January 8, 2012
Because the statement made me angry the same way it did the poster who's taking all the flak
Brownie13 - January 8, 2012
Homer??
Cause I don’t threaten to switch my team loyalty based on quality of play. Eff off.
Coldlampin - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Dude, I didn’t call you a homer. Chill out and read to achieve!
Sleepy Freud - January 9, 2012
I’m not one for bitching.
sounds like you’re bitchin now( the verb not the adjective)
Skeptic con Urquell - January 8, 2012
Petty little prick.
Your missing the point.
Coldlampin - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Your missing the point...
finish the sentence. what’s it doing?
Skeptic con Urquell - January 8, 2012
rofl
bigkino217 - January 8, 2012
Exactly.
You get hung on my grammar and not the effing point I was making. Damn, you’re frustrating.
Coldlampin - January 8, 2012 via mobile
you’re frustrating.
that looks better
Skeptic con Urquell - January 9, 2012
Your missing the point got Coldlampin’s undies in a bunch, apparently…
Sleepy Freud - January 9, 2012
Your missing the point got Coldlampin’s undies in a bunch, apparently…
haha, I was giving him a graceful exit point but he failed to take it.
Skeptic con Urquell - January 9, 2012
What idiot rec’d this post?
Reverend_Randy - January 8, 2012
no excuse warriors fans, i like that- the truth is, with stephen curry this team is 6-2, without him is 2-6
AmaruEternal1989 - January 8, 2012
my warriors wonder JEREMY TYLER
for his amazing clip of 36 fouls per 36 mins.
PIRATEWARRIOR - January 8, 2012
This is a follow-up to the Stephen Curry 7 ankle sprains.
http://www.insidebayarea.com/warriors/ci_19682332
I just came across an Marcus Thomspon II article that he wrote on the 5th, the same day I started my video research. The interesting point is that MT2 did some research with some experts about the cause of Curry’s sprains. The first one is the one that makes the most sense to me based on the videos:
The other two theories are: ligaments not strong enough for NBA basketball, and some kind of a degenerative condition.
If the first cause about the proprioception deficit is true for Curry, I don’t know what they can do about it. Tell Curry to play slower?
IQofaWarrior - January 8, 2012
I don’t know what they can do about it.
just make sure it is as sound as can be surgically made possible then strengthen it with exercise and conditioning. If it was congenital he’d have had problems sooner, it’s gotta be injury related.
Skeptic con Urquell - January 8, 2012
He probably...
worked too much on his upper body strength than his lower body. Seriously, everytime I watch him play, he look like hes about to trip and fall by himself, chasing around other guards.
stepN30 - January 8, 2012 via Android app
also
you could clearly see that he’s gotten bigger but his leg look exactly the same.
I’d say put some 50lbs weight on those ankles…or say 200lbs. I guarantee, he’ll be dunking like Nate Robinson, 100% Money Back Guarantee. No shipping or handling. lol
