With Kwame Brown out for 3 months with a dislocated shoulder, Andris Biedrins (gulp) gets the assignment on Dwight Howard, according to Rusty Simmons.
On Monday, I had the chance to attend Warriors practice and ask Coach Mark Jackson point-blank about Biedrins. See here's the thing. Let's say you're the 5th option, to the point where teammates are screaming your name whenever you grab an offensive rebound (read: they don't trust your offensive abilities so they -- without considering the pyschological ramifications -- try to avoid having you proceed further with the ball in your hands). I've been both the 5th and 1st options on my rec league teams throughout the years, depending. When you're the 5th option like this, it can be like there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
So I asked Coach Mark how to get out of that situation. He protected his player and claimed that Beans isn't the 5th option, although Coach did say Monta was #1 and D.Lee #2. So I think tonight will be a great opportunity for Biedrins to have green lights left and right. Even if he bricks, let's hope he takes those opportunities. He needs to find that light at the end of the tunnel.
There are other interesting matchups for tonight...
If Charles Jenkins gets the start again at pg, we'll have an interesting matchup of Monta Ellis vs Jason Richardson at the 2-guard. I'm sure the Oracle will give him a round of applause during intros.
There's also Hedo Turkoglu vs Dorell Wright, who bounced back against his former team the Miami Heat on Tuesday night (players getting back at their former teams has been known to happen), and former Cal player Ryan Anderson, who can shoot from outside, against David Lee at the power forward spot. Ekpe Udoh would be your backup center.
I'm also looking forward to, at some point, Jameer Nelson vs Nate Robinson. Let's also see if Nate can put two awesome games together. That seemed to be the consensus on Twitter that, every now and then, he can be incredible. If I were on the Warriors staff, I would ask him this: What's preventing him from doing that every night?

Options are not good near Oracle (if ou only have an hour)
My recs in order:
-in-n-out, just across the freeway on hegenberger. Over the overpass, first right into the shopping center, back left behind wal mart. (It’s also a good spot to park and consolidate cars)
-average sushi (on hegenberger heading towards airport, past the walnmart megaplex…just stay on hegenberger, on left across from the big bank). Cheap beer, acceptable sushi.
-in the walmart megaplex, there’s other fast food options. Wing stop is the only other I’d even remotely recommend, but there’s a little pizza, subway, panda express back by in-n-out

Meeting up with my 21 and 16 yr olds, with my 21 yr old nephew. If we started tossing a ball around, we’d never stop…. totally takes us back to all the weekend games when they were younger.

Biedrins and Lee have both matched up vs. Howard
McGuire will likely get minutes at the 4. Jackson from necessity giving Udoh extended minutes could be a bigger positive than a healthy Brown — sometimes things go that way.
the team can usually cling to near-term mediocrity pretty well, it’s building for the seasons that follow that fails, leaving them short term remedies like signing Brown or trading for M.Williams. they’re more unpredictable now, and we should welcome it instead of fearing it.

Wish I coulda heard the conversation with Jackson. But my input is that somebodys got to be that #5 option on offense, they just have to contribute in other ways. Seems to me that Biedrens is good at the two most effective things those #5 guys are able to contribute: hustle and rebounding.
So yeah, almost every team has a dude like that on offense.
Heck, we even have some guys who are like #5 on defense. “please don’t get burned going for a stupid steal” or “oh GOD why would you foul him there?!?!”

I think at this point they know they have to do some kind of trade before the deadline. Otherwise all their talk woulda been just talk and theyd start alienating fans. Even their own employees are baffled by some decisions that are being made. At this point even if they got rid of half the team for a rental of dwight howard it wouldnt make much of a difference. Its silly to keep a losing team together when year after year it just isnt working. I love Curry, but his ankles make him weak which means his trade value is going down. We need to trade him while his value is still high and if that means renting howard I say go for it. I do think once hes here we would have a better chance at convincing him to,stay.

I thought that was losing strategy as soon as we started doing it. It took us out of our rhythm and allowed them to chip a way at a double-digit lead. Plus, Dwight’s a career 60% ft shooter, which is way above the threshold for playing hack-a defense.

I hate hacking. I guess I’m just used to the Warriors playing very smooth offensive basketball without a lot of defense. Maybe we will have to get used to the new “grind-it-out, score enough points and do anything to win” Warriors.
I will also say I didn’t like Mark Jackson’s quote saying he didn’t care about how the fans felt about his tactics, and that he was going to foul Dwight whenever he wanted to.

When Popovich was hacking Shaq a lot when Shaq was on the Suns
Even he didn’t do it this egregiously. He did it to gain extra possessions and didn’t go “all in” in the first and second quarter like Mark Jackson did. He chose his spots carefully. Mark Jackson was just fouling willy nilly.

Hack a Howard also does a couple things I don't like
1.) It tells your players that you have no confidence in their ability to defend
2.) It breaks the flow of your offense

we saw what happened when we didn’t foul dwight von wafer hit that three and the crowd got silenced anyways it would’ve been better if we fouled dwight and the crowd could’ve gotten into it when he went 1 for 2
