Mark Jackson
On Tonight's Game:
"Well, we fought. I talked about it all season long; we are a team that is not going to quit. When it got tough tonight I thought there was a point, just like in life, where you can fold the tent or you can begin to believe and fight back and we did that. Once we began to do that, good things happened. Great for my guys because the bottom line is you need results, you need results in order to trust a system. They have bought in from day one and it was great to see Nate Robinson who people have questioned, doubted, I thought he was - I didn't know what he was when he was on the other teams. But I know he's a fighter, I know he's a competitor and no pun intended I know he's a warrior. The guy left it on the floor, thank God for second chances. Here's a guy, just like everybody else in my locker-room, whatever folks say about him I haven't seen it. He's been great in the locker-room, great on the plane, great on the bus, and spectacular on the court. And Dorell Wright was great. Was great to see him aggressive, taking his shots and defending LeBron James. I'm just extremely proud of my entire group."
On Dorell Wright:
"He was aggressive. I thought in the past he would pump fake his way out of an open shot. He's a shooter, shooters shoot. I think tonight he let his hair down and took open shots. That's the guy I expected to see from day one and I'm so glad that he's back and I expect him to build on that."
David Lee
On Tonight's Game:
"It was a great night for us. You know the next part of it is, we have another game on Thursday. We have a road trip with winnable games, so we have to keep it up. This game was similar to Chicago and New York games, where it all came together defensively in the second half were we were able to get the win."
Nate Robinson
On The 4th Quarter:
"Coach just tested us. He asked us who wanted it more, us or them. It was us. We just kept staying together throughout the whole game and it showed."
Monta Ellis
On Not Giving Up:
"We're not the same Warriors. We just kept chipping at it and we believed. We came out with the win."
On Other Teammates Stepping Up:
"I didn't have it tonight, my teammates did. I didn't need the ball in my hands."
On Dorell Wright's Night:
"I knew today was going to be the day, not because it was Miami I knew his body was going to be better. We have a secret weapon. Like I have been telling him all season to just stick with it and he did."

Only the poll's up
That was so fun, I wanted to get the poll up first. I’m filling stuff out now.
IQofaWarrior - January 10, 2012
Gowwdayum!!!
Just caught the second half, but hole-eee crap.
Nate Robinson, gotta be Nate
Duby Dub Dubs - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Very nice win
Mambatsuna - January 10, 2012
I wish the poll
had an option for Dorell and Nate, they both deserve it!
Hoopachoo - January 10, 2012
True true
Dwright hit that HUGE 3 that finally caught us back up…monta was making some bad decisions toward the end of the 4th
An Udoh too, you wanna know why we need Udoh? Because he’s the only guy on our team that could stuff DWade like that…he needs more minutes
Duby Dub Dubs - January 10, 2012 via mobile
agree
Nate kept us in the game and Dorell was clutch as hell in the end. David Lee also had a great game.
Monta THE Boss - January 10, 2012
Lee was playing physical
compare to Jazz game..
stepN30 - January 10, 2012 via Android app
or had an option for
anyone BUT monta. Monta almost found a way to singlehandedly blow this game. Why does he wait until like 3 seconds left to make a move every time he gets the ball at the end of a game?!!?!?!? TRADE MONTA NOW
tom88gsw - January 10, 2012
overreaction much?
Sensei Ben - January 10, 2012
this is far from the first time monta has played this way.
tom88gsw - January 10, 2012
how about the last second “shot” he got off vs Utah?
tom88gsw - January 10, 2012
technically it was better than the last second "non-shot" he got off today
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
he repeatedly
kept doing it in this game…
stepN30 - January 10, 2012 via Android app
If you really want to target someone
Target Biedrins or Lee, two guys who will kill our salary cap situation for years to come
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
technically monta has a bigger contract than biedrins
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
Monta actually contributes something
Biedrins and Lee are dead weights.
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Lee didn’t look like such a dead weight tonight!
Overall, Lee and Monta are roughly equally mediocre, but Monta’s younger and has a much less obnoxious contract.
Sleepy Freud - January 10, 2012
If possible, I’d still like to get rid of both one way or another. They’re clearly not the long-term answer, but unfortunately they’re also Lacob’s favorites.
WYK - January 10, 2012
we just need orlando to demand both of them in a trade for dwight lol
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
just send otis smith a little hashish
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
tell him we'll even throw in biedrins if he wants us to take hedo!
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
Chuck Hayes
I bet Kings would like David Lee to mentor DeMarcus, lol.
I;d like Chuck Hayes, because he’s actually paid proportionally to his production level.
They can take Udoh-nal too.
And why is biedrins still eating out cap?
tafkasam - January 10, 2012
Order of contract removal
1. Biedrins
2. Lee
3. Monta
I don’t think that’s really a question. Obviously if a better offer came for Monta or Lee (substantially) you move them first, but if you ask me in terms of ‘what i’d take least for’. It’s in that order.
Think we should move Biedrins for Beasley + filler (Minnesota gets a center, we get an expiring restricted FA with ‘some’ value. That move alone (assuming we don’t resign the beaz) would put us around 36 mil committed next year.
tafkasam - January 11, 2012
Here come the downers.
MonstaEllis - January 10, 2012
So you want to trust a guard with questionable ankles and bad foot mechanics?
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
if possible
id like to trade both but would absolutely rather keep steph. Monta does not play winning basketball. He is a selfish shot first player. Its particularly frustrating how he handles end of game situations. Thats partially on Mark Jackson as well though.
tom88gsw - January 10, 2012
i agree trade monta
stayedupto - January 11, 2012
Wish i could vote for all them. Nate with the incredible run and steal. Dorell with his incredible shots with hands in his face, lee with the saves, rush with the d and frees, monta with that last shot to push them up to 3. excellent.
MonstaEllis - January 10, 2012
Also got to give it to Lacob for screaming at the camera.
MonstaEllis - January 10, 2012

How the hell did Nate Robinson get 14 free throws tonight?!
And he made all 14!

okeephoss - January 10, 2012
EXCEPT THE CAVS
ROOOOAAAARRRRRRR
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
LOL
You guys should really tank this year and get another high pick in the loaded draft
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Cavs don’t need to tank; they just suck so they’ll get a high pick.
DubsFan408 - January 10, 2012
Better than being perpetually slightly below average like Golden State.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
When Kyrie leaves, please don’t burn his jersey…
DubsFan408 - January 10, 2012
I never owned a LeBron jersey.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
And you call yourself a Cavs fan?
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
yep
I wasn’t going to buy a jersey until he lived up to the hype and expectations. He never did.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
But he did live up to the hype. I mean, everyone else on the team was terrible. He carried that team for seven years.
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
I’ve got more to say about this, but…we’ll talk about it later.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
Okay, well I will probably forget about this anyways.
Still, the guy carried a bad Cavs team to the Finals by singlehandedly destroying the Pistons.
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
LOL
another bitter Cleveland fan.
GovernorStephCurry - January 10, 2012
I don’t get why Cleveland’s anger isn’t at ferry and gilbert. I wish we had the dilemma of ‘surrounding lebron’. Seems easier than finding the perfect mix of drugs to make curry, monta, lee the ‘core’ of a playoff
tafkasam - January 10, 2012
so true...so true
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
Rec’d
WYK - January 10, 2012
oh good
I’m glad people here didn’t take offense to that.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
why take offense? we know its the truth.
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
Yeah we're the ones who always say that
LOL we trash the team on a regular basis
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
it's not really trashing the team
it’s wanting the team to be bad now so they can be better later
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
I think that counts as trashing the team
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
i like to call it planning ahead
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
You should be a lawyer
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
maybe i will be
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
Oh no
I have unleashed another lawyer onto the world…
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
haha naw, my career path has already been set
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
It’s our duty as fans to trash the team and call them out on their issues. The only problem is that the FO rarely responds with the right moves, if they even respond at all.
WYK - January 10, 2012
Is the FO taking you for granted? Because you guys are so loyal, they don’t care enough, because they think you’ll still come to the games?
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
they know that we'll still sell out
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
That was what happened with Cohan
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Well obviously but cmon now this is the Warriors’ blog. We should be the only ones to say stuff like that!
DubsFan408 - January 10, 2012
I know. I really do want that.
I’m glad the Cavs managed to outlose the pathetic Jazz tonight.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
You know,
for a while I thought you were a Spurs fan.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
I am
You know how you need second teams when you team sucks? A lot? I thought you would understand since you are a Cleveland fan :)
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Certainly
I’m a fan of anyone who can beat the Heat, and to a lesser extent, anyone who can beat Kobe Bryant. I mean, the guy is an extraordinary player, but after a handful of years, I’m getting really tired of people telling me how awesome he is and how he is exempt from criticism and how he stands above all other players. (None of this applies to SSR. Those guys are cool.)
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
We should tank
But we gun get either the 8th pick or the 13th. I’m calling it right now.
ejdacanay - January 10, 2012
Everyone on GSOM has also called it
This is who the Warriors always are
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Well get the 7th pick
And the lotto puts us at 8th
Badly Browned - January 10, 2012
That would be hilarious
and then I would punch a wall
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
don't forget to mention that we finish with the 7th worst record, 1 game ahead of 6 teams tied for the worst record
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
and THEN get knocked out by the lotto
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
And that win would come on the final day of the regular season
Roracle would be cheering the team to win even though they have nothing to play for, the Warriors would stage a dramatic come from behind win, and GSOM would explode
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
actually i was thinking more "warriors win 11 of last 16 games to lose draft pick"
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
It's the same movie over and over again
sigh
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
LMAO even better
ejdacanay - January 10, 2012
hahahaha
no disrespect tho this had my dying
Staticlysmic - January 10, 2012
thanks
that was my intention
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
I almost did lol. Eyes got watery, and my adrenaline was pumping hard during OT and for at least 30 mins after the game lol.
If I was at the game, I think I would definitely shed a tear, and my voice would be totally gone.
bObaBaLLa - January 10, 2012
D-Wright made some clutch buckets
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Great Game
Dorell definitely deserves the Warrior Wonder. I know Nate got them back into the game and that was great, but I feel like Dorell just finished off the Heat even though he’s been in a slump. Nate was good, but he also took some dumb shots. Although his shooting % wasn’t great, he made huge shots so kudos to Nate. Overall, very entertaining game. Who knows, maybe we could have beat the Heat in regulation if we actually got a shot off…
DubsFan408 - January 10, 2012
Anybody else catch DWright pointing at Jackson after hitting that three?

What do you mean?
Mambatsuna - January 10, 2012
His shoulder got dislocated according to Dr. Barnett
Caine Black Knife - January 10, 2012
Shoulder dislocation, probably.
Ronaldinho - January 10, 2012
Might need surgery, huh
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
Please no please no please no
We need the Big Splash!
…wow, can’t believe I am seriously saying that
But maybe means Udoh gets more minutes
Duby Dub Dubs - January 10, 2012 via mobile
No, they would pop it back into place
ayeyoJERM - January 10, 2012
Can't play with it though
Real easy for it to pop back out when you play sports. Surgery’s the only way to go if you want to play high-level sports again.
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
on another note...
no curry, beans, and Monta has zero votes and we beat a Heat team plyaing at their highest level. unbelievable. Too bad they need Oracle to thrive.
okeephoss - January 10, 2012
Not that I'm complaining -
- but why on earth did Spolestra have him team stop their early trapping defensing with had us completely flummoxed in the third quarter?
Ronaldinho - January 10, 2012
While we are complaining about coaching decisions
Mark Jackson needs to hand over the inbound play calling duties…pass it to Monta in iso?
Clever.
Duby Dub Dubs - January 10, 2012 via mobile
monta
needs to not have the ball in his hands with 15 sec left EVER. I’d rather nate or curry (when healthy) i have no problem with monta taken a last second shot off a pass but he gets THE WORST looks everytime he gets the ball at the end of games
tom88gsw - January 10, 2012
LISTEN
why does everyone seem to hate monta these past 2 games i understand he had MAJOR turnovers or questionable shot taking these past two games but honestly…why forget all those past clutch shots he made last year…..
OKC – step back three
Philly – last second shot for OT
Kings – same thing
Indiana – Game winning shot
GIVE HIM A BREAK WE WON!!!
plus monta hit that clutch jumper over shane also in OT
STEPHnELLIS - January 11, 2012
Because it's not about whether or not he makes the shot.
You do understand that a lot of us hated those shots last year, even thought we were glad they went in, right?
Basketball is a game of percentages. Sometimes a low percentage shot goes in and you win. Sometimes a high-percentage shot misses and you lose. But If you make a habit of going for the low-percentage shot, you will miss it more often than not.
And that’s what Monta takes on those end-of-game iso. Low percentage shots. Horribly low-percentage shots.
So yeah, I get it. He’s made a few of them. Monta is a player who can make some incredible shots.
He still shouldn’t take them when the team has a choice.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
At this point, Monta missing a shot or turning the ball over in a late-clock iso situation is the coaches fault. We have seen him fail in that role enough at this point that the coaches should know better than to even put him in that position. Draw up a damn play that involves some screens and off ball cuts! FFS!
Supafishal - January 11, 2012
because he didn't hit any game winners or anything last year...
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
Hitting a few game winners doesn’t mean that the shots he takes at the end of games are good shots. They’re terrible shots regardless of whether or not they go in.
WYK - January 11, 2012
its like this…
u turn the ball over early it gives the opponent a chance to win…(Obviously)
u shoot the ball early gives the opponent a chance to win…(Obviously)
its common sense if monta were to put the shot up and miss he’d still be hated for missin it, not passing the ball up, or shootin the ball early for a “David Lee tip in at the buzzer” lol regardless of the outcome every one will say monta almost blew the game unless he hit a GameWinner of course
STEPHnELLIS - January 11, 2012
That wasn’t the point you’re responding to. The point made was that Monta constantly flubs the “final possession” play with poor decisions. He always takes bad shots in those situations. He rarely passes, and when he does it’s often way too late. The few times he actually managed to hit the game winner are moot; it does not change the fact that it’s a bad decision, and he needs to change that soon or he shouldn’t get the ball for the end of games.
WYK - January 11, 2012
constantly?
lol this is laughable.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
So, what, are you suggesting that he’s making flawless decisions every time he takes the contested off-balance jumper with 1 second left on the clock or driving head-down into double and triple teams to get stuffed in some way?
WYK - January 11, 2012
Clearly
your goal is to be right, because I never said any such things.
You can have it.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
And what about you? Clearly your goal isn’t to be wrong. In fact you brushed off my statement as “laughable” without really even addressing what’s exactly wrong with my statement, implying that somehow whatever I said was so ridiculously wrong that it’s not worth explaining why you disagree. You must really think he’s either consistently making the right play or that he consistently succeeds, or both. I find that “laughable.”
WYK - January 11, 2012
If I wanted to be right.
I wouldn’t have given up.
And I didn’t try to assign an opinion or stance you never took to you :)
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
monta has the ability to create his own shot better then most people in this league
the fact is jackson gave monta another shot at it even after last night..get the ball into your play makers hands and just pray it doesnt have to be pretty.. especially if the games tied…i see where your coming from if were losing but in possible game winning situations with the score tied up monta did it the right way
STEPHnELLIS - January 11, 2012
Sure, Monta can create a mediocre shot at the end of games.
Except when he doesn’t, like last night. Or against Bell the other night, when he doesn’t.
The myth that Monta can create a shot at-will is getting demolished in these last few games.
But in any event, that misses the point, because the point is that there are hard ways to create a shot (driving into a defense when you’re covered by a good defender who knows you’re going to drive) and there are easy ways to create a shot (use ball and player movement to create space for a player to move or shoot in).
If you were actually paying attention last night – and I’m guessing you weren’t – you might have seen an example of this which was so obvious that even Jim Barnett pointed it out. One possession Monta came down to the wing, faked the drive, and shot over Battier easily because player movement had taken the help away and Battier had to respect the drive.
Compare that to the last shot of regulation, when Monta tried to create despite not having space, found himself up in the air without a shot and had to throw a bad, too-late pass to Dorell.
There’s good basketball and bad basketball. Monta’s last shot of regulation was horrible basketball.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
Don't bother
These guys have already made their minds up about Monta and use every chance they have to complain about him. Oh, we beat the Heat! Let’s bag on Monta. Oh Monta made a game winning shot, lets pick apart stuff that happened earlier. Oh, Monta held on to the ball too long.. apparently running down the clock because the coach asked you too is another reason to complain about Monta. It doesn’t matter that his teammates were not getting open for better shots.
Ice Watter In His Veins! - January 11, 2012
Whereas you of course have a totally open mind about him.
Sleepy Freud - January 11, 2012
It's actually not.
If you were in the game thread, you saw a lot of people predicting exactly what would happen on end-of-game and end-of-quarter possessions long before it happened.
Monta’s been doing it on basically every close end-of-quarter possession this season.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
They predicted he wouldn't get a shot off?
I could see predicting an iso jumper, and a miss, but that didn’t happen.
And that says just as much about the play caller as it does about Monta. I don’t want him going head on one-on-one with Wade at the end. If it was Chalmers or someone sure, but he’s handled the pressure well before. You may not like the shots that went in on those situations last year, but they were pretty good looks to me. So that pretty much ends the argument for constantly for me.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
Then you have no idea what a “good look” is basketball is.
One of Monta’s game winners last January was a backwards leaning contested jumper where he had to shoot the ball from behind his head to avoid getting it blocked.
That’s pretty much the opposite of a good look. Great that it went it (and what kind of BS is it to claim that I didn’t like that the shots went it? Really, dude?) but that doesn’t make it a good shot.
It was a terrible shot. Unarguably.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
I was saying you didn't enjoy it went in.
I meant only you didn’t like the kind of shot it was.
I think on those plays, Monta go the shot he wanted on a matchup that favored him.
That hasn’t been the case either of the last two games.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
I *WASN'T* saying
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
the two memorable game winners from last year
were good shots.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
apparently they were bad even if they went in..
STEPHnELLIS - January 11, 2012
its not even about them going in
balance, mid-range jumpers for the win/tie is something you should be happy with every time
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
Curry got it a few times last year
It was even worse, he’s a shooter more so then a pure scorer so creating a shot from an iso isn’t that natural
It was a bad play call, Monta should have just thrown it up but still it was a bad call
dubzfan - January 11, 2012
actually, the majority of iso opportunities end in midrange jumpers, where steph is exceptional. it’s the reason his ISO PPP last season was a good amount higher than monta’s
bigkino217 - January 11, 2012
Yeah but if he just stood at the top of the key like Monta with their best defender on him I doubt he can create that good of a shot
Not that Monta does but I think end of game isos are different then mid game isos
dubzfan - January 11, 2012
Fouls?
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012

Mixed feelings...
Immah call this game
“the mark Jackson miracle on joe Lacob’s birthday”
And kwame dislocated his shoulder….
I’ve been there many times myself, sometimes it feels like nothing even happened and other times the worst feeling u can imagine!
I seen him mouth the words while on the bench rubbing his shoulder saying " it’s sore as a mutha fooker"
That’s not good….
We are thin at the 5 right now and this type of thing can permanently damage the joint ah la Brandon wright… Now KB is huge compared to brandon but this will def hurt us against Orlando….
RTM707 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
How is Kwame Brown for you guys?
Sounds like he’s fitting in.
WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
He's been okay.
He fills the lane defensively.
I’d say he’s a perfectly adequate backup center. Mediocre hands. Mediocre help defense. Holds position in the post pretty well.
Doesn’t make you hate him, but doesn’t do much that’s particularly special, either.

I was sooo on the fence for this game. I wanted them to win, but wanted a high draft pick too. So it was pretty hard but at the end of the day, I’m a Warriors fan and was extremely pleased with the win.

We just need to tank the rest of the season and I’ll be peachy.

24 points, 4 rebounds (1 offensive), 5 assists, and 4 steals.
See? I told you Robinson was a great pickup for you guys.

Looks like our backup PG problem is solved.
Only problem is with Curry out he might be our starting PG for a while.
Ronaldinho - January 10, 2012
He's not shooting 14 FTs every game
His hot streak probably won’t last and then we’ll wonder why he chucks up those threes he’s making right now
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
double and triple team
the heat were double and triple teaming monta.
but 9 turnovers is a little too many.
I C - January 10, 2012
The heat were trapping EVERYONE.
During the third quarter, anybody who got the ball got swarmed.
Everybody looked like they didn’t know what to do, but Monta looked the worst.
Ronaldinho - January 10, 2012
heat plays amazing defense.
im surpised there weren’t more turnovers considering our size.
bimmercirem3 - January 10, 2012
did that really just happen?
JustSomeName - January 10, 2012
I wish the poll had: "Dwight, are you watching this amazing game you could be in?"
But wow we did amazing with team defense and just overall team offense in the last quarter. I only got to watch the 4th quarter and from what i read, we played pretty good defense for some stretch…i would assume since we were down 17.
another thing….we win against pretty damn elite teams (like top of the division playoff teams). and even if we lose, its not by much. I actually do believe this team is a playoff team if weren’t for injuries and just overall slump of players. Dorell’s performance tonight speaks volume because his confidence was through the roof. No more head fakes and just straight shootin’. If we can get players like Klay and Dorell to perform like that nightly…then by god Monta has his help. DLee played like his usual game to me…but with extra help (which in turn gives him more area to perform).
wow once steph comes back, we should be pretty damn good. Lets beat ORLANDO and convince Howard how great the Warriors can really be.

I didn't know the Maloofs owned GSW?!
Lame. Celebrating a meaningless win like it’s the playoffs, and yes even if I did celebrate myself, the message this conveys is nothing short of cohanian-
“great time out!”
“wooo sooo fun!”
“no I won’t make any proactive steps to actually make a legitimate consistent playoff team, for fear the intermediate would lose me ticket sales!”
Sorry, done with the Lacob kool-aid. Show me something a little more than motivation, cause it’s all just big talk but no cahones to actually follow through and risk the ‘backlash’ of trading or dumping monta, lee or curry (or god forbid, Biedrins!).
tafkasam - January 10, 2012
Wow. Being enthusiastic about the team winning a game is now a bad thing?
You must live on a sad, strange planet.
Ronaldinho - January 10, 2012
Don't mind him. He just wants attention lol.
Precise Films Productions - January 11, 2012
Believe me, no one was happier than me that we won, and in particular Dorell came back to life
(I missed the Dorell of last year, I know he’s not our best player but for whatever reason, he’s my favorite. Fan’s unlogical emotional bond at it’s best)
But that was an unnecessary comment ‘i live in a sad, strange planet’’?
Really?!
Anyway, I stand by my point. It annoyed me, because of how unprofessional it is. It shows he’s a fan. It also shows, he has no clue what he’s doing (well we knew that) and in my opinion, isn’t particularly interested.
I have season tickets, I have for a few years now. Pretty much from the moment I could afford them on my own, post college, so please don’t tell me I don’t know what it means to be a fan or enthusiastic.
I just expected a lot more from Lacob, and basically, it’s like we traded Cohan for a Maloof. Not the management I wanted. I want someone willing to make hard decisions, who wants to give the fans here a team we deserve, one who can make playoffs consistently with ease, and hopefully challenge for a title.
So far, all I’m seeing is a child with a new toy. He’s balking a trade of any of our core 3, because of fear of a backlash. When any intelligent fan knows a potential a cap clearing deal for a prospect may be an immediate step back for a long term jump forward.
tafkasam - January 11, 2012
Also worth pointing out:
If you believe the chatter we heard this summer, then the team was absolutely willing to trade Monta. Lacob was even for it but deferred to his basketball people (in this case, Mark Jackson) who wanted to coach him.
The team was willing to move Monta for an extensionless CP3. The current chatter is that the team is willing to move Curry for an extensionless Dwight Howard. (That makes sense – Howard is better than CP3 so it makes sense to risk more for him).
So it seems like a big chunk of your criticism here is simply at odds with the facts.
Your other criticism here seems to be that he’s not willing to tank. The problem, of course, is that tanking doesn’t work. As I’ve explained in other posts, the math of tanking is just terrible. You have to be bad and lucky, usually for multiple years. In this case, if we did tank to keep our 7th pick, and ended up with a pick somewhere between 5-7, well, we’re talking about Perry Jones, Thoman Robinson, and John Henson as the likely picks.
In other words, a guy who sometimes seems apathetic and lost, a guy who showed very little ability to create for himself and only played 14.5 minutes a game last year and a guy who’s going to struggle from a strength point of view as an NBA PF and is generally poor at creating for himself.
In other words – there’s not much certainty that any of those guys are going to be better than David Lee.
So the notion that there’s something irrational about not wanting to tank, that it’s representative of “do whatever you can to hold on to current ticket sales” makes no sense.

WaveOcean - January 10, 2012
There was that, but I figure it’s no different from the trash-talking that always goes on on the court anyway. When the final buzzer rang at the end of the Finals, Wade personally went out to Jason Kidd and congratulated him first. Gracious in defeat.
WYK - January 10, 2012

he's definitely up there for me
but you really can’t go wrong with KD
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
oh yeah i like KD too.
playing with a player like Westbrook…KD got some real patience. KD anynight can go 50. but i seriously think westbrook is shooting way too much for a pg (in reality more like a SG). a rondo type player would make them EASILY the favorite.
bimmercirem3 - January 10, 2012
i just like the way kd handles himself, and how loyal he is
he’s not looking to jump ship for a big market as soon as possible.
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
i do expect he'll leave though when his extension is up
unless he wins a ring or two.
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
I think 9 years is a fair run, regardless
No one faults KG for leaving.
tafkasam - January 10, 2012
exactly
bigkino217 - January 10, 2012
Cuz his team sucked?
and he was TRADED?
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
Yes, but he definitely requested it and wouldn't allow them to trade him where he didn't want
To me that’s no different than Melo or CP3. Only difference is years he spent and of course being polite about it.
Anyway, point was if the Thunder haven’t progressed and KD is still a distance away from challenging fora title, after his contract and 9 years. It’s ok. He would have given it a long run, and sometimes a clean start is what you need.
tafkasam - January 11, 2012
Minnesota won 33 and 32 games in KG’s final seasons there.
And he never PUBLICLY (as in we have no proof) demanded the trade.
Nuggets won 50+ games in each of his final 3 full seasons with them, and 50 in the season in which he left halfway through. They didn’t have a single losing season during his time there. They were less than a year and half removed from making the Western Conference Finals. He could have just played out his time there, and joined the Knicks in the off-season, but that wasn’t enough for him. He had to have the max contract (before new CBA) too.
Very different from KG.
CP3 isn’t quite as bad. Playing for New Orleans at this point (even making the playoffs) sucks. They don’t have fans, and they don’t have an owner. But he ALSO could have played out his time. He ALSO publicly demanded one, even specifically asking to be sent to NY, a team that could really offer New Orleans NOTHING in return after having traded for Carmelo the previous year.
Not the same. At all.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
No one thought that about LeBron either though.

No. Cuz it was “hero ball” which = fail
it sucked not to get a shot up, but it didn’t almost blow the game
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
Ok....sure....
That was still one of the dumbest possessions at the end of a game/qtr I have ever seen, and we’ve already seen a ton this season.
Badly Browned - January 11, 2012
You've never seen a possessions where the team didn't get the shot up.
We had one last year :/
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
I said it was one of them
Still doesn’t change the fact that it was dumb as hell.
Badly Browned - January 11, 2012
Well as the play developed, it turned out to be a pretty crappy one to begin with.
In the end, Monta SHOULD have tried to put it up, from what I saw, he had no angle, and even a good chance of having it blocked. Without being able to see the clock very well, I don’t think it was such a terrible play to try to pass up the complete non-look he had, but time-consciousness was clearly an issue. Definitely not the worst or near to the worst I’ve ever seen.
Seen guys hold the ball open as the clock run out before. Seen guys pass to the other team. Seen guys shoot a terrible shot with way too much time to play. This wasn’t a good play, and Monta kind of solidified a bad offensive night with it, but I don’t feel like him not launching it hurt is any significant way. That shot just wasn’t going to go in even if he took it.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
How did it not almost blow the game?
What kind of nonsense is this?
GovernorStephCurry - January 11, 2012
I think you could say that play as a whole cost a chance to win the game.
But I really could go no further. It was a tie game, so “almost blowing it” on that possession would require a turnover and a missed opportunity for the Heat.
I could also not personally lay all the blame on Monta, because from the start, that play was destined to have him somewhat trapped on the wing with a poor look at the basket.
So the statement “Monta almost blew the game” does not fit for me in this situation. Monta played a terrible offensive game, and a pretty bad possession there, but because I assume “almost blowing it” entails passing up the shot for a pass there was not enough time for, I can’t see it. The shot he had wasn’t going in from there. It just wasn’t. We didn’t lost anything from him passing it.

Lew Ghost - January 11, 2012
I'm curious why Lee didn't really set a screen there.
Did Monta wave him off? It seemed like the play call was to set a screen.
Kobe waves the screener off all the time in that situation, to his team’s detriment. I’d love to see a replay of that with sound and hear what’s going on in that moment.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
I'll have to watch that again...
It seemed like he called him off, because it looked like Lee’s body language changed suddenly and he backed off. I don’t see why he would come up like that just to move off. The play looked broken at that point because Dorell was so confused he didn’t clear out by running baseline when Monta made his way over to his side of the floor.
olympicmike - January 11, 2012
Agreed.
But I don’t want to hang Monta for that until I’m sure.
In the long run, a few plays like that where Monta calls off the play and fails miserably might be good for him and the team – although if there was a better play called and he went hero style that’s going to piss me off.
But I don’t have a replay-with-sound handy, unless it’s in one of the latter links.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
Just watched it again (it's at about 9:00 in gumby's highlights).
It’s hard to tell. It looks like Lee slips the screen too soon for it to be a wave-off, although I can’t be sure.
What it might have been was a play that was designed to use the fake screen to unsettle the defense and give Monta a moment to attack. That’s not a horrible strategy (although I’d prefer a real screen there, particularly since he hadn’t been running screens all day). But for it to work, Monta has to attack right at the moment when his defender is checking to see where the screen is and there’s a fractional hesitation on the part of the defender.
Instead – and this is my guess as to what happens – he waits too long. You can see Lee looking back after he slips the screen and his body language looks a little confused, like – why isn’t the play happening?
It looks like the play was designed for Monta to go hard the moment Lee slips the screen, with Dorell in position to shoot if his man doubles, and Lee curling back around to be the outlet if the big man help comes from inside, but Monta doesn’t attack at the right moment. He waits, has nowhere to go, and drifts into Dorell’s space.
Obviously hard to be certain what the play design was, but that’s what makes the most sense given what’s going on when Lee slips his screen. The announcer even points out that Monta has an angle caused by the motion, but he doesn’t take it.

Fake screen
Not really sure how that helps… lol
When I saw it coming, I was like “Yes!” but then he ran off :(
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
the game was so exciting...
i was screaming like a b**ch

WOOOHHHOOOOOO!
CLASSIC WARRIORS!
We win the games we aren’t supposed to and lose the ones we should win. Celtics with Baron at the end of regulation, this game, mavericks in playoffs. So warriors.
Happy for Nate. He clearly was emotional after the game. Matt Steimetz may want to send him a flower basket and an apology.
Togna Balogna - January 10, 2012
lol at that last part. matty gotta eat it for that one lol.
man i have a feeling nate will love to sttay with the warriors. he seems to be set on to prove haters wrong (boston/knicks/okc). that may be a good thing because he seems determined. especially with his family in oakland…i love the energy hes bringing. that emotional interview really made me want to root for nate from now on.
bimmercirem3 - January 10, 2012
Fun fact
Dorrell Wright is trending on twitter. Reminds me of the time Monte Ellis was trending. Can’t wait until Stefan Curry trends… “1 R 2 L’s”
jonathannn - January 10, 2012
Yeah.
What annoyed me was the people on Twitter who were surprised that Dorell Wright can shoot. Idiots didn’t know that he led the league in 3 pointers made last season.
Precise Films Productions - January 11, 2012
Nate Robinson was also trending for a while, too. Then both Wright and Nate disappeared and it was mainly "LeBrick" that was trending. Lol.

trade curry for dwight now and extend robinson and the warriors will be winners!!!!
HUNGRY HUNTER - January 10, 2012
Im worried the fact
that Biedrinz is injured and Kwame seems to be in pain when he fould Haslem. It seems he pop his shoulder. With Lee & Udoh on our front court with no possible rotation. It be pretty tough guarding Howard this thursday. Hope Kwames shoulder is not that serious…
stepN30 - January 10, 2012 via Android app
jeremy tyler; do not forget about him
HUNGRY HUNTER - January 10, 2012
If Kwame is a no go
He’ll definitely get a good look
Badly Browned - January 10, 2012
LOL
Yes do not forget about the second round pick who has barely played and apparently is not good enough right now
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
who is in front of him?
HUNGRY HUNTER - January 10, 2012
Hmm
Chris Wright apparently. Though he’s more SF/PF while Tyler is PF/C.
Badly Browned - January 10, 2012
Well
At least I know Dwight will beast for my fantasy team
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
before we know it
our front court is in foul trouble. This will decide who win/lose this game.
stepN30 - January 10, 2012 via Android app
Yes, hence the line, "Don't forget about him".
Precise Films Productions - January 11, 2012
I dontt think
he has enough strength going against Howard but, Ill take anything just to slow Howard down.
stepN30 - January 10, 2012 via Android app
I love how David Lee still gets called a deadweight...
After a 20 pt. double double against arguably the best team in the league.
cam3racks - January 10, 2012 via mobile
One game sample size
You’re forgetting all the games where he sucked
doubleteapot - January 10, 2012
this season
other than when he was really sick he has played quite well. He is a good PF!!! He is overpaid. Yaddayaddayadda. Heard it all before. Real Warrior fans cheer for everyone on the roster.
Togna Balogna - January 10, 2012
Throughout his career, including last year (despite the injury and playing below expectations)
David Lee has made his teams better on offense.
He’s had bad games. He’s certainly limited, and the ways in which he helps his team aren’t always terribly obvious. His game has major flaws.
But “consistently made his team better on offense” is not something that, for example, can be said about Monta.
Ronaldinho - January 11, 2012
Until this point of the season
he had been very near deadweight. He had a very good game today. I was happy with his performance for the most part.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
Brownie, Lee is a baller. He has had 5 double-doubles this season already! WTF, over!
dinohealth - January 11, 2012
OH MY GOSH!
5 double doubles! MVP! MVP!…in case you didn’t get that…SARCASM :/
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
I got it. It's still 5 double-doubles in 9 games. Got anyone else doing that for the GSW inside?
dinohealth - January 11, 2012
No but that speaks to how terrible our front court is
and no other Warrior big is averaging over 20 minutes a game
Lee’s getting 38 minutes
Not sure there is any player in the NBA capable of averaging a double double in 20 minutes a game.
Brownie13 - January 11, 2012
kevin love maybe
i remember he had a lot of first half double doubles last season
bigkino217 - January 11, 2012

Jim Barnett: “And those stats actually matter this time!!”

I’ve really enjoyed his post game comments this season. It’s becoming a must watch for me, and I usually don’t really care much about what players and coaches say to the media.
