We'll be kicking off the new decade over here at GSoM with a throw back in appreciation of the "golden years" of suck for tChris Cohan's franchise: 2000-2009. It came, it went, and it amounted to one playoff appearance.
But man, did the Warriors make an appearance in the playoffs in 2007.
Quite an appearance I must say.
Anyhow we're going to start things off right with the purest form of a fan vote possible. It's time to vote for your favorite Golden State Warriors player of the past decade. Don't waste your time with the stats or wins (those silly little W's we don't care about 'round these parts!). We'll do that on the other All-2k Golden State Warriors polls, but this is one is purely about picking who repped the soul of Dubs fans. Nothing more and definitely nothing less.
For a fanbase that really hasn't had all that much to root for in the past 16 years, but is still ridiculously passionate about Dubs hoops this vote is special. So my golden friends- the vote is yours but I beg you to promise me that the Warrior you select embodies the "UNSTOPPABLE BABY!" in some major way, shape, or form. Make your case in the comments.
The voting ends on the 2nd day of the new decade a little before midnight, so make to tell your friends to tell their friends to tell their friends to rock the golden vote! Spread the word. Again, this vote is sacred.
JUMP for a little bit about each nominee.

The nominees are...

Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Democracy Matters. 'Nuff said.
I still can't believe I found a pic of 'twan dunking.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Back-to-back 51's and one great, goofy smile despite all the losing.
Back then I honestly thought he was going to be a superstar some day.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Is there anything more Warrior-like than 22.7 ppg on 38.9% shooting? Plus he had next... or so it seemed back in 2000.
Round Mound of Rebound Part 2
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: The Fort almost lead the league in rebounding during the 2000-2001 NBA season with the Warriors inhaling 11.7 rpg. It was especially stunning considering that 3.8 offensive rebounds in that total were all off of his own misses.
Dont' mess with General Mills.
via media.scout.com
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Just like Warriors fans he's crazy- crazy enough to think he could take on the entire Portland Jail Blazers team bus.
I bet if he trimmed his hair a little, he would have been as fast as Monta Ellis.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: I won't lie. You can smell the ganja in the rafters of the Roaracle at plenty of Dubs home games. Let's just stay it wouldn't be too surprising if Porter was stashing a joint in that lovely 'do. Warriors fans and Porter have that special connection.
Living proof that the 2000 NBA Draft class was one of the worst of all time.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Nearly winning the 2000 Rookie of the Year honors is something, but providing the official motto for Golden State of Mind is something else:
"UNSTOPPABLE BABY!"
Golden State Warriors rookie Marc Jackson to the Mavericks' bench, after hitting a lay-up during a 29-point loss (2000)
Marc, not Mark will forever be in the GSoM lexicon.
Bonus points for the mini-Chris Porter 'do.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Before he was the popular character in the nation's capital he was a crazy up and coming popular character here in the Bay. Plus he gives us another reason to bash the worst owner in all of sports Chris Cohan- seriously man, WHY DIDN'T YOU LOOK GILBERT IN THE EYE?
I thought you knew- Warriors come in all sizes.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Earl was the the Dennis Eckersley of the Warriors 2002-2003 squad (arguably the 2nd most entertaining behind the WE BELIEVE 2006-2007 team). He can also kill an elephant... that's right, an elephant.
Uncle Cliffy remains one of my favorite hoops uncles.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: They say that all good things come to an end and Uncle Cliffy came to the Warriors in 2003 with a 14 year playoff streak that was ended (fairly easily) that season.
He just seemed cool back in 2003.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: His stay in the Bay was brief, but he was good for a few clutch moments.
I'd like to think KG was intimidated here.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Who can forget The Custodian? There sure was a lot to clean up on the Warriors- still is.
WE BELIEVE this will be the winner of the All-2k GSW Fan Fav.
via i.a.cnn.net
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Winning 2 dunk contests and making Warriors fans proud during a very dark, dark era of GSW hoops and taking out a full page ad in the local papers (yes we actually used to read newspapers just a few short years ago) apologizing for missing the playoffs at the end of the 2006 season and then helping lead the Warriors to the unforgettable WE BELIEVE. Quite the Warriors All-2k soul is you ask me and that's why J-Rich gets my vote.
Eddie Murphy in Coming to America: "IN THE FACE!!"
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: In a decade of Dubs sub-par rosters (to put it lightly) he was the team's best player. He was also one of the few players this organization had this past decade that could actually dribble.
DO YOU BELIEVE NOW?! Yes we do Boom Dizzle. Yes we do.
We couldn't have done it without the mohawk.
It's really too bad it didn't work out. Al seemed like a cool dude.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Sure he struggled in the 1st round against the Dallas Mavericks, but if it wasn't for his amazing DEFENSE on the likes of Yao Ming, Pau Gasol, and other bigs in the final stretch the Warriors wouldn't have even made the playoffs. Baron, Monta, J-Rich, Jack, and Al- the fastest and funnest Warriors starting 5 of the decade.
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Double-double with the cheese.
Who could forget Monta's grand entrance on the national stage back in 2007 Rookie-Sophomore Game?
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Before there was Moped Gate, there was Ellis... TO THE RIM!
I wonder what Nellie and WIlliams did in... PRACTICE? PRACTICE?!
via imgs.sfgate.com
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: You might want to check where your laptop is right now... I'm just sayin'.
JC for 50!
Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Because of it signified what life was going to be like post-WE BELIEVE for at least a few years the 2008-2009 season gets my vote for worst Warrior season of the decade. JC's 50 and sick handles gave us something to smile about during the full blown return of WE SUCK. Sure he won the 2008-2009 WWDY, but he seemed like a really cool cat.
Interesting Under Armour.

Claim to All-2k Dubs Soul: Even before he got to the Bay he was getting hyphy!
All of these former/ current Golden State Warriors are deserving of the All-2k Dubs fan favorite honor, but who gets your vote for Warrior Wonder of the decade?
For more Golden State Warriors history make sure to flip through the GSoM History section.
See you in TWENTY TEN. Here's to another decade of the Warriors being... um, Unstoppable Baby!

Danny Fortson
I will forever remember Danny Fortson as a foul machine and THE absolute worst outlet passer in NBA history. I remember it one particular game, three of his outlet passes sailed into the 5th row, over the open man’s head by at least 10 feet. For these blunders, he is truly the Warrior Wonder of the decade.

Anthony Randolph because he brings hope of something bigger
and we need hope as always in the past 15 years.

Jason Richardson
Even a few years after his bitter departure and playing on a playoff bound team now, he STILL wants to return to basketball purgatory (GSW) after his contract expires. If that ain’t dedication and loyalty, I don’t know what is.

It takes me back a little bit when I see guys like Larry Hughes, Chris Mills, Chris Porter and what not.
Anyway, I voted for Richardson.
Rated-R Superstar - December 31, 2009
This has to be one of the hardest choices...
I had to pick between Baron Davis,Jason Richardson and Monta Ellis…
They all made a difference on the poll but these 3 actually bought unforgettable memories to the franchise;I am going to go with Jason Richardson because he was a loyal hard working player that did everything he can do to help this franchise. Also,Baron was runner-up.:P
Cpt. Jack in the Box - December 31, 2009
It has to be J-Rich
While Baron and Monta were huge parts of the Warriors (small) return back to respectability, J-Rich represented the Golden State Warriors SIX whole seasons in Oakland (01-02 through 06-07), and was really good to us fans. I don’t think any player on that list deserves the decade-long honor more than J-Rich. Sure, Davis was more important to our team in our most significant year, but he was only with the Dubz for 3 and a half seasons. I’m hoping I can call Monta the Warrior Wonder of the ‘10s, but we’ll see about that…
Run Dubz - December 31, 2009
I voted B Dizzle and then immediately felt bad about not voting for J Rich...
Jamison should actually get some consideration. If he had had his best years at the end of the decade instead of the begining, he would be up there with J Rich, Boom D, and Moped
freerandolph - January 1, 2010
It's between Diddy, Monta and J-Rich
But I think I’m gonna go with J-Rich for now with Monta at #2
A2mm2o - December 31, 2009
J-Rich and B-Diddy
J-Rich was the main guy on the Warrior squad for a while. It sucks how he stuck with the team for so many seasons and played his heart out because the one time the Dubs make the playoffs, he gets traded after. But I guess that’s just business. Much love to J-Rich, who still call Warrior fans the best fans in the NBA even though he’s on the Suns.
Baron Davis was also my favorite. I’m glad he was able to resurrect his career with the Warriors because he did a lot for the team. He was the all star that came to the Dubs to help them end the playoff drought, which he did. He was the guy who did the most during the playoff run and was the key piece in helping the Dubs pass the first round (S-Jax was too). Even though he left the Warriors for the Clippers, it was better for his career, and I still like the guy.
J-Rich and B-Diddy left the Dubs on bad terms, but still got to give them props for everything they done for the Warriors.
DubsFan408 - December 31, 2009
For me it was by far JR
J-Rich had the longest tenure on our Warriors and he was the most exciting and fan friendly guy our team has put on the court this decade. He loved the bay, period. He loved the fans, period. Just in a recent article by the San Jose Merc he stated that Golden State have the best fans and he’s still open to coming back. He won 2 dunk contests for us, the only thing we had going for us in the all-star weekend this decade.
But what I respect the most out of him, was his apology, he apologized to the whole warrior fanbase knowing that his team was inept, but still man enough and took responsibility for the losing seasons. He paid out of his own pocket to get his message out. You rarely, and I repeat rarely, see a player from any pro Team Sport, take responsibility of a losing team and tell the fans of that organization “I’m sorry and promise better for the future.”
That’s dedication and love folks. That’s how J-Rich won most, if not all, of the Warrior fanbase and personally all of this is why he is my favorite Warrior of the decade.
ejdacanay - December 31, 2009
He really said he'd be open to come back?
That would be bigger than Webber’s comeback and probably a little more successful but I wouldn’t expect too much.
GoldenStateGuerrero - December 31, 2009
He was quoted on saying
I may not be able to bring the old J Rich back, but I can definitely play a role as a player off the bench trying to help that team win, or something along those lines, heres the link to the article:
http://www.insidebayarea.com/warriors/ci_14071410
JustSomeName - December 31, 2009
It can only be J-Rich
C’mon, the guy took an ad out in the paper apologizing directly to the fans. Not even the OWNER of the team has done that – heck, I haven’t even SEEN the owner since he got booed at the All-Star game (that was cold, ya’ll. Deserved, but cold). But seriously, arguably nodoby in a Warrior uniform has had more heart and dedication, at least not publicly or quite so vocally. I would put J-Rich on my Dub Squad any day of any week. He represented the Dubs like we fools in the upper deck do; to the fullest and not really giving a damn who does or doesn’t like it, regardless of win/loss record. Clearly, that is what the Dubs and their fans are all about.
MikeAucksbigg - December 31, 2009
After J-Rich, it would have to be Bob Fitgerald/Jim Barnett
To be able to call these Warrior games for so many years, you have got to be a saint. I would have lost my patience so many times, I would have had to open an account with the FCC for my frequent use of profanity on live TV. They would have set me up with a payment plan. Actually, I would have just had money directly withdrawn from my paycheckand deposited with the FCC because I can’t get through a Warrior game without yelling out several harsh profanities at the top of my lungs.
MikeAucksbigg - December 31, 2009
J. Rich - No contest for me
How many players have we had where you can say you were never really mad at them for anything. ever.
JRich wasnt perfect – I was frequently pissed about his failure to catch the ball near the paint for easier points- but he was a really good player who always played hard.
He was the heart and soul of the team for a long time and he made us proud on All Star weekend – something that has been lacking for many years before and after.
Second place was Brian Cardinal. In my short memory, he was the first real underdog to make the team and really shine. How good was he in that short time? He signed a big fat contract with Memphis for like $60 mil 2 years after barely getting into an NBA summer camp.
He blazed the path for CJ, Morrow, Buike
warriorsvictim - December 31, 2009
Mini-Thread here!
All the love for J Rich in this thread makes me wonder…do you guys feel that he deserves to get his number retired? He may not have won us championships or made us a perennial contender, but he meant so much to this team and was an important part of that We Believe team. What do you guys think? And while we’re on that subject, when will the Warriors retire Mullin’s jersey?! He deserves it!
JustSomeName - December 31, 2009
Chris Webber FTW
GoldenStateGuerrero - December 31, 2009
Ooooh, good one. I really should have added the C-Webb comeback in there.

In order to be truly considered,
a player must have been here for the good, the bad, and the ugly for the decade. Baron was only marginally a wanna be compared to J Rich!

Chris Mills
Every NBA 2k game I ever purchased, I had him on my team, hoping there was a glitch in the game where he would fight the whole other team like a true warrior. One of my proudest warrior fan moments is when he called out the whole portland team. GO Chris Mills
Oracle Junkie - December 31, 2009
J-Rich
Besides the fact that he was the sole reason NBA fans still knew the Warriors existed in the early 2000’s, J-Rich gets my vote because he wanted to simply be a part of this franchise and community more than anyone else.

kay0ss - December 31, 2009
But in all seriousness
It would either be Antawn Jamison or Jason Richardson.
Both guys never complained or whined about anything; they gave their all each and every single game they were with the Warriors. I’d probably give the edge to J-Rich for obvious reasons, but both were true examples of professionalism in this sport.
kay0ss - December 31, 2009
Jason Richardson
he was one of the reasons i am a Warrior fan today. I loved watching him in the dunk contest and watching him grow and delvelop in Golden State. He was a true Warrior and a guy i knew wanted to be here through the good and the bad. And even still calls us the best fans in the NBA and after all we did to him with the trade after we made the playoffs wouldn’t mind coming back. He is a very loyal guy and a hard worker and will always be remembered in a Warrior uniform. Baron Davis is next because he was a very big part of the reason for WE BELIEVE even happening and as well as J Rich is a cool dude. I also think Anthony Randolph because he has helped me still love the Warriors threw this dark times with hope that he may one day become the player we all hope for

I voted for Brian Cardinal for the lulz...
But yeah, in all honesty the Warrior Wonder of the Decade would have to go to J-Rich, followed closely by Antawn Jamison and Baron Davis. Richardson was the heart and soul of the team for six seasons. He made the team watchable during the latter part of our playoff drought. And on top of that, he was a likable guy. He was a flawed basketball player, sure, but I’m pretty sure we only remember the good times and great plays he’s made as a Warrior.

LOL
Alas, even Uncle Cliffy owns a J-Rich 23 The City jersey.
UncleCliffy - December 31, 2009
I voted Diddy.
J-Rich would’ve been tied for second with Foyle.
BD was the best player we’ve had that qualified in my mind. Without him, we’d have been stuck in purgatory forever. Jrich is a nice player, but he has too many holes in his game for me to have ever really fallen in love with his game. I might’ve knocked him down a peg or two do to his all world talent, yet he couldn’t dribble or jump off of one foot.
kenntoe - December 31, 2009
You make a good point...
…but one of the main reasons I picked J-Rich over Diddy was that he wanted to stay and would likely have taken a pay cut to do so, if he had to. Diddy, as valuable as he was to the Dubs not only as a player but as a symbol, would NEVER have taken a pay cut. DIddy (though it was not all his fault. Ownership was 95% responsible for his departure) was willing to break up a great thing because he and ownership were a few million dollars apart. Now, to me, they were going to pay him nicely. Nice enough that, combined with the lucrative salary, it would have been enough for him to stay and continue the miracle that was happening in Dubsville. I guess it wasn’t.
BTW, Cohan – when you’ve waited 13 years for that missing piece to come along, you don’t let him walk because you are a few measley million dollars apart on the negotiations. I think this is proof positive that either he doesn’t know what he’s doing, he’s operating an NBA team on a budget (which will leave you in the dust every time), or he’s too spiteful to build a winner the right way. If you try to build a winner through the D-League and the draft, you’re really just hoping to get lucky. If they let Monta go, I’ll be permanently done with the Cohan-led Warriors.
MikeAucksbigg - January 1, 2010
he’s operating an NBA team on a budget (which will leave you in the dust every time)
The Spurs won four championships over the course of eight years without hardly even going over the cap. You can DEFINITELY win on a budget, you just need really smart people in the front office to do so, and unfortunately, we don’t have that…
JustSomeName - January 1, 2010
You can DEFINITELY win on a budget
True. The Spurs have done an incredible job without going over the cap. But, let’s not discredit the incredible luck (obviously some skill involved, too) they had in landing not one, but TWO All-Star big men, and a host of extremely talented assorted other position players whose names I’m not even going to ratlle off right now. PLUS, the Spurs found a way to keep a successful nucleus at all times.
The Spurs are the exception. Clearly, most teams are not as good as the Spurs.
MikeAucksbigg - January 1, 2010
By the way...
We DID get lucky with our D-League ballers. I love CJ, Buike and Hunter. CJ and Kelenna need no introduction. I’d like to see a little more Hunter, though. Another reason I’m still a fan of this team. We sure do love our underdogs around here…

yeah, it’s obviously an edge to not need to be that good to compete. being able to the throw money around helps. it doesn’t work every time (see our friends in new york for evidence), but big markets and big money make a big difference.
