The big, bad Blazers come to Oakland with their big, oft-broken center, Greg Oden, and big star Brandon Roy. This is a very good team and they're going to be good for a long time. In a few years, perhaps next year, this team could challenge for the title. Jealous? Yes. They just have guys that are easy to root for.
On the other side of the floor, the Warriors are, well, the Warriors you know and love. But, Warriors basketball post-Jax has been much more team oriented, slightly bearable to watch. Even though both games ended in losses, there were definitely some encouraging signs for the team moving forward.
Fewer "what are you doing?!" shots
I'm not sure what it is, but Jax took a lot of bad shots and that seemed to rub off on everyone else. Now that he's gone, it seems like the other guys have reverted to knowing what a good shot is. Well, everyone except for Anthony Randolph. He still shouldn't be taking so many shots outside of 3 feet. It's been nice.
Steph Curry and Monta Ellis
The ball is in their hands more and that's a good thing. Jax would make a nice play every now and then, but these are the two best ballhandlers and I like seeing the ball in their hands more often, especially Curry. He just has a knack for finding the open man and anticipating what the defense will do. More ball with ballhandler + less time in Jax's hands = good.
Corey Maggette
The biggest positive out of all this mess is that Corey Maggette is starting to play a different game. He's working his butt off on the defensive end - something I don't think I've seen. He's taking less long jumpers and working to get inside more often. Lastly, he's rebounding more. Not sure what's got into him, but I've been impressed probably for the first time since he's joined the team.
It's only been 2 games, I'm looking for anything to make me feel better about the Warriors. Hopefully this is the beginning of a newer, better team (provided nobody else gets injured).

has anyone commented on the recent Monta quotes? It seems as though he may be turning the page on the disgruntlement of the past now that Jax is gone. All this talk of how he “needs to lead the team” and how “we could do damage in this league” makes me optimistic that the drama is beginning to subside.

Yes, Portland is much superior to the W’s and they do play real defense but as somebody pointed out they can’t seem to win in Oracle for a while. Last season, I remembered they lost twice in Oakland and were complaining left and right about the officiating — basic whining stuff.
Maggs have been playing better lately and we’ll need his scoring as El Loco is in Charlotte. May the Radman’s home debut go well…

my fondness for the Warriors goes back to the Rick Barry days. I also thought Al Attles was one of the fiercest big men I’d seen. That 75 team that swept the Bullets was fun to watch. Barry, Silk, and Smith— awsome.
So much for the glory days. I’d love to see the GSW make it back to elite form, but I realize it’s a work in progress. Sounds like the team is really hurting for depth, but that trading Jackson was addition by subtraction. A step in the right direction I hope.

It probably also has to do with how we are polar opposites as far as play style is concerned. We wish we could play a bit more like the Blazers, and I bet some Blazer fans wish they would run a bit more.

the awesome thing is that jax got traded to a really bad team—that won’t last. he should play along side mellow and all the other thugs in denver. golden state should frustrate the blazers tonight. blazers have a really bad coach and probably wont play oden more than 20 minutes, blake will probably play all of the 4th quarter while miller sits- that’s good for u guys!, Larmarcus will probably jack more outside shots, and if the game is close, will be sure to give it to roy EVERY time down the court in the 4th. at least u guys have nelson—even though his moves are sometimes questionable, no doubt he would make the easiest decisions…something the blazers coach fails to do. go warriors!

Nate is not a really bad coach
in fact under Nate, the PTB have had greater success each and every season. You may not agree with the way he coaches, but labeling him a bad coach is erroneous and a comment likely to fall on deaf ears.

I'm not going to second guess Nate
over every thing that doesn’t work out perfectly. The team is winning. If Blake makes those late shots Nate is a genius. If not throw him under the bus. Same with Rudy’s minutes, Oden’s minutes, Blake’s minutes.
I’m not saying some of the things that happen with the team don’t furrow my brow, but it’s also very easy to be sharp tongued, hyper-critical and assess blame to the coach from the vantage point of the sofa.
I’m a Portland Trail Blazer fan and think Nate is the best coach this team could have at this time. I’m also convinced he is leading the PTB down the right path. It just requires a bit of patience in seeing it all come together. Hang in there.

A few pregame thoughts
I am watching the Orl v. Boston game right now, and am looking at how championship teams are built. Funny that Orlando has Barnes and Pietrus too. JWill is solid, and will be a backup PG once Nelson comes back. Seeing that the Dubs just brought up this D-League guy, maybe they will have yet another prospective talent. I can never decide if having this many undrafted players on a team with the intention to keep them as a core. Boston traded everything for their aging stars, and Orlando surrounded their lottery pick with a few really good players and the rest are pretty much utility guys. If the Dubs trade Monta, their best player is gone unless they get something. Trade for Stoud and get Iverson to replace Monta to make a playoff run? No…not really.

What a great half
Monta is playing the best floor game I’ve ever seem him have. Dishing the ball well, even playing some good defense. Still a loong way to go and we’ll see what adjustments Portland makes, but I love the team effort by the Warriors. Curry is a defensive liability, but he was a nice shooting touch and is a very sharp passer.

They can’t win against athletically superior teams, really. Cal is not athletic. We are so much more smaller and slower than teams like Syracuse and Ohio State. We win by three-point shooting and smarts, not one-on-one ability and length and what not. Also, we have no interior offense since we have no size. With Harper Kamp out, one of top three rotation guys inside, it makes it that much more tougher. It was a little easier against Ohio State since they don’t have the threats Syracuse do. Also, like I said, we win with our three-point shooting. Theo Robertson, who shot 49 percent from downtown, didn’t play in either game. Had he played against the Buckeyes, we would have won. He’s probably our best all-around player. I’m not making excuses. It’s hard to win against opponents like those without two of your top six players.

The Pac-10 is weak. Washington is our only competition. We were 2-0 against them last year. These games against superior opponents will be good for us down the road, I think. Last year, Michigan State was killed early twice. They ended up in the national title game.

They underestimated us
They clearly didn’t watch the games against Cleveland and Boston. This team is heading in a direction more conducive to developing the young guns now that Capt. Ballhog Jackson is gone. The chemistry is remarkably better, too, and it’s showing on the court.
Perimeter defense was excellent, as Portland swung the ball back out multiple times (probably the most I’ve seen this year) and had to settle for jumpers. Interior defense was great, too.
Does anyone else like that new guy Chris Hunter? I don’t know how the rules of waiving players go, but I’m hoping that we drop Devean George (I’ve always hated him) in favor of keeping him.

One other nice thing about Hunter

Our size should have been a dominating factor but couldn’t be, our Star should have picked apart the mythical lack of D your squad plays, but …. wasn’t able too. after that first period I was cruizing, I didn’t really need to watch anymore so I kinda mosied on into the kitchen for my din din, went about spewing how great our team was going to be this season, how we were going to kill Los Angles in 5 or less games, …. then I made it back to the game about 5 min into the 2nd, and … was cursing my television from there.
Alright, maybe I coulda posted this at home but dam it, that was a freakin amazing game your team played and I’m in awe if just for one night. and very upset with our team over their lack of whatever it was that fuled your squad to victory.
