Stephen Jackson reacts to trade (0:48)
Matt Steinmetz details Warriors trade (0:58)
Jackson's Parting Shot [Inside the Warriors]
How badly did you want to be out of Golden State?
"I wanted to be out pretty bad. Things were going bad and I was getting blamed for everything. I wasn't seeing eye-to-eye with the team. I got fined in preseason for one-hundred-and-some thousand. It was a lot of things that I didn't agree with going on from when I got there. We made history by beating Dallas in the first round. Then things started getting worse and winning stopped being a priority. Once winning stopped being a priority, I didn't want to be a part of it."
Describe the decline of the Warriors
"It started when we got rid of Jason Richardson and then the next thing you know, it was Baron (Davis) And then it was Al Harrington and Matt Barnes. The team that we had when we made that run, that beat Dallas in the first round, went South. Once it started doing that, I didn't want to be a part of it.
Good old "Captain" Jack. How can someone be so right and so wrong at the same time?
Jack is right that everything has gone south since that wonderful spring and that Warriors owner Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell's priority is not winning. 110% right. Since former (rightfully so) Warriors front office man Chris Mullin pulled the trigger on that inane Jason Richardson for Brandan Wright swap after a failed attempt to land Kevin Garnett, it's been one endless WE BELIEVE destroying move after another. No doubt about it.
But let's get things straight. Jackson signed on to play with a LOSER. Jason Richardson, Baron Davis, Matt Barnes, and Mickael Pietrus were all long gone by the time he inked that silly extension gift from Rowell. Shoot, even Harrington was half way out the door at that point. Jackson wanted to be part of a LOSER to the point he signed on the dotted line for 3 more years. That was his choice and his choice alone. It was just like his choice to leave the San Antonio Spurs after that championship run to play for a then headed nowhere fast Atlanta Hawks with worse ownership drama then even Cohan's dysfunction junction off 880. His supposed passion for winning and playoffs is no stronger than your average NBA player who is primarily motivated by the loot.
There's nothing wrong for wanting to get paid- at all- but there is something wrong for distorting the facts, badmouthing the folks who showed you more than enough love (a lot of it undeserved), and acting unprofessional both on and off the court. If Jack and his quack agent Mark Stevens handled this situation with any sense of class, the Warriors would've sent him to a championship contending Cleveland Cavaliers squad. But they didn't and now he's headed to an even bigger LOSER franchise- which is pretty hard to do.
Truth be told even if the Warriors passed up a better trade offer with the Cleveland Cavaliers for Jackson as ESPN's John Hollinger has intimated, props to Riley and Nellie. They set a good precedent. If you're going to act a fool here, they're not going to do you any favors. If you make their lives miserable, they'll do the same to you. (Hope Monta Ellis is paying attention.)
Stephen Jackson says the Golden State Warriors don't care about winning, but the Charlotte Bobcats do [Orlando Sentinel]
Q: You named several teams you'd be interested in playing for, this wasn't one of them. Are you happy?
Jax: I'm happy because it gives me a chance to compete, gives me a chance to get back where I want to be which is in the playoffs. That's where I belong. I don't belong being home in April watching the playoffs; I belong in the playoffs and I got a good chance here with a great team. A team that competes with a coach the type of coach I like that have your back. That's something that's big to me. If a coach has my back I don't mind playing 110% for him.
I honestly feel bad for the guy. Just a straight up delusional. Again Jack signed up for loser and he's headed to a loser because he acted like a loser during trade talks. Warriors head coach Don Nelson is the best thing that ever happened to his career.
My friend Mr. Meshery over at Fear the Beard puts this far more eloquently that I can in Stephen Jackson goes rogue. Gets traded by his own ego., so I'll just pass the mic:
Back to going rogue. So, what do Stephen Jackson and Sarah Palin have in common (besides maybe a fondness for guns and not liking to take directions from old crazy white dudes)? Well, I remember spotting this article back during the election where some therapists armchair diagnosed Sarah Failin' as having Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Symptoms are:
A grandiose sense of self-importance (exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements). Has a sense of entitlement, i.e. unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations.
Sound like someone we know? That last part is what gets me - the unreasonable expectations. C'mon Stack Jack, did you really expect to hustle Bobby Rowell for millions, disrespect the organization and teammates, say you're as good as Kobe Bryant, let your agent talk crazy about your coach, dismiss being a team captain, demand to get traded (and to a winning team at that), and think that your demands would be met in full? Really Stack Jack? Really? This, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when someone gets hijacked by their Texas-sized ego.
I think onixn sums up the situation well:
You brought swagger to a team that had forgotten what it felt like. You reinvigorated Baron. You covered for hundreds of defensive lapses (early on, anyway). You mystified Dirk Nowitzki. You nailed threes on fast breaks and laughed as you ran back down the court. YOU ENABLED US TO DUMP MURPHY AND DUNLEAVY! All that stuff was awesome.
Did you go out like a jackass? Sure. But it should be noted: your jackassedness was not solely your fault. Robert Rowell gave you a contract extension befitting a star; Don Nelson gave you the huge minutes and offensive leeway of a star. If you think you're better than you are, it's partially because this franchise did too, and foolishly told you so.
The sad part is in general Dubs Nation genuinely loved this guy. We gave him a second chance and for about 2 years he made us proud. Very proud. It's honestly too bad it had to end like this.
In a few years we'll be able to look back on this fondly, but unfortunately not right now.
Monta Ellis Doesn't Sound Happy [Inside the Warriors]
Seriously is this guy ever happy? Moody Moped Ellis.
Will you have to do more to make up for the loss?
"I'm not (going to) put no more on my back. Somebody else gone have to step up. I'm not gonna do more, somebody else gone have to step up and take on the role that Jack had and be that player. But I'm not putting no more extra on my back."
Do you feel a need to be more vocal?
"Nope. Uh, uh. Not at all"
And this is the guy Chris Mullin and Robert Rowell were so eager to build around and anoint as a franchise leader? No thank you to you two for destroying WE BELIEVE. Well Mullin's gone and hopefully Rowell will be soon too.
What do you guys lose with Jack gone?
"No. 1, besides his scoring and the ability to make the extra pass. What we've been emphasizing the whole time is defense. That's one of our best defenders on the team. And we're trying to get better as a defensive team. And now, who we got now that's going to play defense? We got me. And who else?"
Just like his buddy the "Captain", Monta sounds extremely delusional. Monta is one of the worst defenders in the entire association. It's hilarious how he pouted about how bad of a defensive combo he and rookie Stephen Curry would be (by the way true) before the season started, while not realizing that he was publicly admitting how terrible his effort and results were on that end of the court.
It's also funny how Monta thinks he's going to talk to Jackson everyday now. I hate to be cold, but I bet Monta just got played by Jack too. Jackson is his buddy like he's Rowell's buddy. Used and abused.
Good bye Jack. Sorry it had to end like that, but that was pretty much your own doing.
Monta- Don't be surprised if you're next.

Jackson and Bell looks like they’re looking at the same object. Why so serious?

If Monta gets moved this season
Larry Riley is a genius. He would have moved 3 tough contracts: Crawford, Jack, Monta.
Also, since I’ve posted 2 fanshots and SBNation won’t let me post another one for a while, here’s Riley on Ralph and Tom.

Just like J-Rich! Oh and not re-signing Baron, we ducked a hot one that time! Lets get rid of any player close to deserving 10 mill a year, the standard of a good player with potential in this league. Let’s get rid of Biedrins and his impossible contract! then we’ll have enough cap space to sign the next Maggette and prove to every player and agent that we don’t keep talent and care more about saving the owner money than winning!
gobigg415 - November 17, 2009
HOORAY! Sounds like the Warriors plan over the last 15 years.
aBulldog - November 17, 2009
Comparing any of the 3 contracts, really, is comparing apples to oranges. None of those contracts are close to the same. Crawford – horrible basketball player, yes, I don’t know why anyone would want to add him to their team. His contract, in yearly salary terms, is also pretty large. But he only has one more year left on it. From a contract standpoint, it’s really not bad at all. After this season, he becomes an expiring contract, which is a decent chip to have. Crawford really isn’t that bad. Jack…now, Jack’s contract is just awful. 3 more years after this at ~$28M I believe. That’s a lot of money over a long time for an old player who’s not nearly as good as his per game stats suggest. The player does provide value – Jack’s a decent player, sure, but a headcase who takes bad shots that you can’t count on to give you 3 controversy free years. That should be a pretty tough player to move.
That brings us to Monta. Monta is not a bad contract at all. He’s young, he’s good, he’s paid fairly for how good he is. That’s a piece lots of teams would want. Now, they might not give us back the talent we’d want to give up Monta, but don’t get it wrong – he’s still a positive asset and his contract is not bad or unmovable. He’s not like the other two in the least bit.
Missing Barry - November 17, 2009
I actually like Monta
I want to see how good he develops before the Warriors think about trading him. Weird how everyone hates him now. =/
Precise Films Productions - November 16, 2009
I don't believe that everyone hates him
I guess you could say it’s tough love.
girltothemax - November 16, 2009
I can see that
I want him here no doubt about it and is my fave player here but the only deal I’d like with him involved would be him and Beans for Bosh if Bosh signs an extension.
dubzfan - November 16, 2009
As good as Ellis is, unless he grows up fast he just isn’t a face of the franchise type of player.
Badly Browned - November 17, 2009
Nor is he paid like it, so it’s ok. Monta is a good complementary player, now we have to find a superstar to pair him with.
Missing Barry - November 17, 2009
U missing the point
He is the highest paid player in our team so he is paid the face of franchise type of money. 2010 the salary cap will drop to 51-52 mil meaning a face of franchise player can get 15 mil or 14 mil max if he signs as a free agent. There is no more 20 mil a year in the NBA, the average is going to be 11-14 mil so Ellis is getting paid top money and he doesnt want to be vocal and sounds like he himself wants out of the Warriors.
To me, the best day will be if we get rid of two bad remaining contracts, Ellis and Maggette, free up cap space for players like Bosh, Joe Johnson who went to ATL and made them a better team. Players like Brandon Roy, Durant, J Johnson can change the culture of their teams, what does monta bring in?
puffylove - November 17, 2009
Joe Johnson isn’t that good, not much better than Monta. The Hawks got better for a lot of reasons – Joe Johnson was one of those reasons, sure, but he didn’t single handedly turn that franchise around. Monta’s contract isn’t bad, you’re flat wrong. He’s paid like a good player, not a superstar, as I’ve said.
http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm
30 players make more than $13.6M right now. Monta is not one of those 30 players. Just because we have yet to find our superstar doesn’t mean we’re paying Monta superstar money. We aren’t. It’s that simple. He’s young, he’s good, and we’re only paying him $11M a year, and that number doesn’t increase in the future.
Missing Barry - November 17, 2009
hella off topic, but I find it hella Ironic....
That the first person jack talks to in charlotte is Dell Curry…. in a dubs jacket(Don’t mind this statement, just a personal thought)

What i love the most about this trade
is that we are bringing EXACTLY the type of vet we need around to help our young guys grow.
Raja Bell is a great person for them to learn from, from working hard, to defending the Kobe’s of the league.
Raja Bell could be infinitely helpful to the development of Curry/Morrow/AR on and off the court.
LostHawkGSW - November 16, 2009
Bell will be a much better influence on the young guys than the veterans that were signed in the off-season for that exact purpose (Moore and George).
samuraaaaiiiiiii - November 16, 2009
Man I dont know with Jackson
He believe that he can lead the Bobcats to the playoffs scene. Well good luck I hope he can fulfill his wish. Why J-rich never lead the Bobcats all the way to the playoffs? And infact he got traded after one and half season.
mykelala01 - November 16, 2009
show up at the facility....
in a Warriors Jacket!!! haha come off it Stack Jack.
Playoffs! you kidding me! Playoffs!
Welcome to the bottom cellar of the East Coast Jack…. you got your wish
Frisco - November 17, 2009
It's Going To Be Funny...
when the Warriors finish the season with a better record then Charlotte. What will Jack be saying then?
I don’t want to trade Ellis but if he continues with the attitude he has shown post trade we may have no other option. But unlike Jackson we can trade high not low on Ellis.
Anyone see that Okafor is available from the Hornets in a salary dump? What about trading Claxton and Turiaf for him? Sounds like it could work for both teams.
nocal81(Vincent) - November 17, 2009
It would still be trading Monta low compared to his value when he inked his contract
gobigg415 - November 17, 2009
Royalties
I will be expecting them since you plagarized my SN in your poll. But serioulsy, an acknowledgment would be nice.
And to answer the question, I don’t think we should move monta. His trade value is too low. We have him at a reasonable price.
MO-ped MO-problems - November 17, 2009
But seriously, the “Mo Moped Mo Problems” line didn’t come from you.
Atma Brother ONE - November 17, 2009
I have not seen anyone else write or use it. So yes I am serious.
MO-ped MO-problems - November 17, 2009
And yea you’re right it didnt come from me, a very witty friend of mine who has an affinity for puns texted me that phrase right after the news came out about the incident. I have no doubt that he came up with it. Not like Im about to take legal action or anything, but that is an original phrase which I have not seen used on this site. I post/read this site somewhat regularly, not like this is my first time here.
MO-ped MO-problems - November 17, 2009
Great. Please check the archives before making allegations like this.
Atma Brother ONE - November 17, 2009
Fair enough, its been used, but checking the archives, I believe I’ve had this name longer than the first time you used the phrase. I could be wrong, and most likely the phrase was conceived independently by both parties. Look, I’m not really trying to make “allegations.” If you read my first post regarding this there’s clearly a joking tone. Im not actually going to hunt you down for royalties. I will say I’m a little displeased with the defensive tone you’re taking at the moment, and if that’s the case, we can drop it. I’m not trying to start a fight. No allegations, just making a joke.
MO-ped MO-problems - November 17, 2009
It’s all good man.
We’re going to need you and your witty friend to keep dropping the witty-ness to keep us going strong through the constant Dubs Drama!
Atma Brother ONE - November 17, 2009
Is this Monta? And is your friend who came up with it Jax? That would be funny.
Fantasy Junkie - November 17, 2009
As cute as you may think it is, it’s not the sort of original wit that only one person in the universe is ever likely to come up with.
jae - November 17, 2009
So wait a minute
Buike is out, Jax is gone, Wright is injured, Bell is injured, Turiaf is injured, and Beidrins is injured, so our 3-5 positions are comprised of only Radmanovic, Randolph, Moore, and Magette? That’s it?
Can we at least call up some D-League big?
Jeremy Belvins - November 17, 2009
Can we please call Phil Ivey so he can bluff Cohan out of the ownership and all his money
buky - November 17, 2009
Can we sign any 10-day (15-day? I forget) contracts yet?
Badly Browned - November 17, 2009
No. 10 day contracts aren’t available until some time in Jan, and then only if you have space on your roster. The Warriors have 15 contracts and would have to to petition the league for an injury exemption. That’s something you get if you’re not able to field 8 warm bodies. It’s not something you get if you simply have a lousy, unbalanced team.
Ellis, Curry, Morrow, Bell, Maggette, Radmanovic, Randolph, Moore. There’s your 8 man rotation!
jae - November 17, 2009
"Ellis, Curry, Morrow, Bell, Maggette, Radmanovic, Randolph, Moore. There’s your 8 man rotation!"
SWEET!
aBulldog - November 17, 2009
Monta = LOSER
1) Seriously what kind of leader says that he won’t step up his game when his team needs him the most? With Buike, Biedrins, Turiaf and Wright injured and Jax gone, he’s really not going to try to do anything more to help this team?
2) And what kind of leader throws his teammates under the bus? He’s the ONLY one playing defense? Really? I’ve noticed he’s been trying harder on D, but c’mon we’re only 9 games into the season. That’s now 9 games in his entire career that he’s tried to play defense.
These quotes make him sounds like a selfish, immature and spoiled little boy who forgot what basketball is about. Cohan should have voided his contract last year. Right now, I’d rather have him shipped out and lose more than have him on the team. If he’s gone, then we lose 55 games instead of 50? Big deal.
Fantasy Junkie - November 17, 2009
Sigh. I bet you were happy to see Webber and Spre leave, too. “Who cares if we lose the talent, it’s about chemistry! You wait, 1998 is our year!”
Missing Barry - November 17, 2009
Happy to see Webber leave? No.
Happy to see Spree leave? Yes. Physically attacking your coach cannot be tolerated.
So Monta is going to take us to the playoffs? You really think his talent and contract are going to make this team a winner? You want to build around Monta and his 4/44 contract?
Also I’d like to root for guys that I feel respect the game of basketball.
Fantasy Junkie - November 17, 2009
Happy to see Spree leave?
Are you insane? Spree was the team! PJ Carleismo should have been fired immediately after the incident! Carleismo is the worst coach in NBA history. Just look at how badly Kevin Durant did under Carleismo!
Yeah and believing everything you read from the media about Monta Ellis is going to show you exactly what? It’s their job to make it look like a soap opera. You can take anything out of context and make it seem like Monta’s disgruntled.
Rocky63215 - November 17, 2009
PJ was a horrible coach that should never have been hired. What does that have to do with Spree choking him? So what you’re writing is that you would not fire someone who choked their boss?
How are these quotes taken out of context? Did you read the interview? I’ve never known MT2 to make anything look like a soap opera.
Fantasy Junkie - November 17, 2009
Now, you’re obviously right about Spre, when you attack someone like that there are consequences, and we had no choice but to send him off. However, the point is we undoubtedly got worse because of that. This thing with Monta is a similar situation – if things deteriorate to where we have to ship off Monta, we will be losing talent and setting the franchise back. I don’t want to build around Monta, per se, I want the team to find a real superstar, which Monta is not. However, we have a good young player, being paid for what he is – a good, young player, but not a superstar. If we manage to find that superstar, Monta is a great complementary piece. Shipping him off rids us of that, which is a bad thing, and sets us back.
Missing Barry - November 17, 2009
Again as a fan
Sprewell did what I know I wanted to do, I couldn’t stand PJ
Oracle Junkie - November 17, 2009
I don’t think that’s what FJ is saying at all. He’s no fool.
Webber no. They should’ve dumped Nellie and kept CWebb if that’s what it took.
Spree yes. Look PJ wasn’t a good coach by any measure, but it’s hard to side with a guy who chokes his coach. Keeping a violent employee like that makes ZERO sense. I understand Spree made a dumb mistake, but I can’t say I’d blame Stern if he banned him from the league at that point.
Atma Brother ONE - November 17, 2009
Carleismo should have never been hired in the first place
PJ wasn’t a good coach, he wasn’t a coach at all. He will go down as the worst coach the NBA has ever seen! He maybe better of as an assistant and letting a real man do the job, but you’re valuing PJ way too much. He was incompetent as they come!
Rocky63215 - November 17, 2009
This is incredibly reactionary and dumb. He’s by far our best offensive threat now you want him gone? For one quote?
MO-ped MO-problems - November 17, 2009
Reactionary? One quote? No.
If you paid attention this offseason, last season (oh wait he was hardly around), or last offseason, then you’d know that this is not reactionary, nor based off of one interview. Perhaps the quote set it off, but certainly not based off of one interview.
The Warriors are certainly not only Monta’s fault, but as someone who is paid to be a leader, was told he was going to be a leader, and wanted to be a leader, I’d expect A LOT more.
Fantasy Junkie - November 17, 2009
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Sounds like someone we just traded away.
IQofaWarrior - November 17, 2009
Trade Ellis
I rather have three good players than one moron who thinks he is the best thing that happened to the warriors. Ellis is an arrogant moron, his attitude is messed up, he is got issues with the warriors organization after they paid him $66 mil for 6 yrs, thats top money considering no team would have paid that kind of money when he was restricted FA. I seriously don’t see us winning with this roster so why don’t we start rebuilding through free agency, we have a some potential players like Buike, AR, Curry and Morrow but except AR all of them are solid bench players, all we need is a decent PG who can help Curry to teach him how to play the point, a big shooting guard that can guard KB, Roy, J Rich, E Gordon, and can be decent offensively, so I think Raja fits the bell, our weakness is at 3 position, either AR needs to play at the 3 or we need AK47, so a trade with Utah maggette and Ellis for AK47 and their rookie Eric Moyner wouldn’t seem bad to me and I think would help both teams, AR can play the four and develop there, Beans is a decent center.
Lineup
Curry
Bell
AK47
AR
Beans
WE DONT NEED ELLIS GET RID OF HIS ARROGANT %
puffylove - November 17, 2009
Didn’t I debunk this like…yesterday or something? There is no incentive for a team to go after a restricted FA like Ellis. Just stop. Of course he’s not going to get that kind of money in restricted free agency. Unrestricted….well, now you’re talking about a whole new situation. Larry Hughes got 5 years $70M in 2005 as a free agent…it stands to reason that Monta could have done pretty well on the market himself.
Have you seen this team? Yes, we need talented players.
Missing Barry - November 17, 2009
Ellis is now our lone "top" player
Who’s backing him up? Maggs? Curry? AR? AR in a year or two but right now without him were as bad as the Nets
dubzfan - November 17, 2009
Sign A.I
If we get rid of Ellis, we can get A.I for one year, he will play harder than Ellis and can start at the PG position with Bell (if he doesn’t opt for surgery). Ellis and Maggette for AK47.
Lineup
Allen Iverson = 20 pts 5 Assist
Raja Bell = 13 pts 3 assist and 4 reb
Andrei Kirilenko = 15 pts 7 reb and 5 Assist
Anthony Randolph = 18 pts 11 reb
Andris Biedrins = 10 pts 11 reb
Pts Reb and Assist is my own guessing, but this lineup would be better defensively and offensively, its also bigger lineup than what we currently have, plus we have the solid bench Curry, Morrow, Bell, Radmanovic, Watson, Turiaf, Moore. Injured Claxton, Buike and Wright.
puffylove - November 17, 2009
Really? You think this is a good idea? Does it even need to be debunked?
